ABS-CBN announces "Nang Dahil sa Pag-ibig," Piolo Pascual, Jericho Rosales, Maricar Reyes and Cristine Reyes as lead stars

Padre de Pamilya” is now re-titled “Nang Dahil Sa Pag-ibig” with the same cast like Piolo Pascual, Jericho Rosales, Maricar Reyes and Cristine Reyes.

The teleserye was previously titled as "Padre de Pamilya" but was replaced with the present one because, according to Piolo Pascual, "Nang Dahil sa Pag-ibig" is the more appropriate title since everything that will happen in the story will be all about love. There are no words yet on what would be the characters of Piolo Pascual and Jericho Rosales but they promised that it will be something new.

This will be the comeback of the controversial hunk actor, Piolo Pascual, in the primetime after his top-rating teleserye "Noah." In this upcoming teleserye, Piolo will be paired up with Maricar Reyes while Jericho will be with Cristine Reyes.

Aside from the four, the series also boasts of a powerhouse cast that includes Techie Agabayani, Sandy Andolong, Rey "PJ" Abellana, Denise Laurel, Rafael Rosell and Christopher de Leon. This series is directed by Jerry Lopez Sineneng and will soon premiere in Primetime Bida on ABS-CBN.

"John Carter" -- an Epic, Action-Adventure Set on Mars

Walt Disney Pictures presents the 3D epic, action‐adventure “John Carter,” based on the Edgar Rice Burroughs classic, “A Princess of Mars,” the first novel in Burroughs' Barsoom series.

Directed by Academy Award®–winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton, “John Carter” is set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). The film tells the story of war‐weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

2012 marks the 100th anniversary of Burroughs’ character John Carter, the original space hero featured in the series, who has thrilled generations with his adventures on Mars.

Over generations, John Carter has become a heroic paradigm across all forms of pop culture. From novels to comic books, artwork to animation, TV and now cinema, the character has inspired some of the most creative minds of the last century.

A fan of the Barsoom series of books since childhood, director/writer Andrew Stanton explains what inspired him to bring “John Carter” to the big screen in his first foray into live action: “I stumbled across these books at the perfect age, I was about ten, and I just fell in love with the concept of a human finding himself on Mars, among amazing creatures in a strange new world. A stranger in a strange land. It was a very romantic aspect of adventure and science fiction. I always thought it would be cool to see this realized on the big screen.

“‘John Carter’ is a big epic adventure with romance and action and political intrigue,” continues Stanton. “Because the subject matter was written so long ago, it was also a bit of an origin of those kinds of stories—a comic book before there were comic books, an adventure story before that became a genre of its own.”

Andrew Stanton directed and co‐wrote the screenplay for Disney/Pixar’s “WALL‐E,” which earned the Academy Award® and Golden Globe® for Best Animated Feature (2008). Stanton was nominated for an Oscar® for the screenplay. He made his directorial debut with Disney/Pixar’s “Finding Nemo,” garnering an Academy Award–nomination for Best Original Screenplay and winning the Oscar for Best Animated Feature (2003). Stanton has worked as a screenwriter and/or executive producer on Disney/Pixar’s “Toy Story,” “A Bug’s Life” (which he also co‐directed), “Toy Story 2,” “Monsters, Inc.,” “Ratatouille” and “Up.”

Willem Dafoe, who plays Tars Tarkas in the film, comments on working with Stanton, “I worked with Andrew on ‘Finding Nemo.’ And even though you’re doing a voice, he’s incredibly well researched and knows every shot, every process—he’s an incredible multitasker. So when he told me about this project and how it was going to be approached, I was very excited. Because he’s the kind of guy that can handle that. Without any cynicism about the process. He loves this stuff. He loves the story.”

The stellar ensemble cast is led by Taylor Kitsch (NBC’S “Friday Night Lights”, “X‐Men Origins: Wolverine”) in the title role, Lynn Collins (“X‐Men Origins: Wolverine”) as the warrior princess Dejah Thoris and Oscar® nominee Willem Dafoe (“Spider‐Man”) as Martian inhabitant Tars Tarkas.

The cast also includes Thomas Haden Church (“Spider‐Man 3”), Polly Walker (“Clash of the Titans”), Samantha Morton (“Elizabeth: The Golden Age”), Mark Strong (“Sherlock Holmes”), Ciaran Hinds (“There Will Be Blood”), Dominic West (“300”), James Purefoy (“Resident Evil”) and Bryan Cranston (“Breaking Bad”). Daryl Sabara (Disney’s “A Christmas Carol,” “Spy Kids”) takes the role of John Carter’s teenaged nephew, Edgar Rice Burroughs.

Opening across the Philippines in March 2012, “John Carter” is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International through Columbia Pictures.

ABS-CBN airs Donaire-Vasquez title bout

Pound-for-pound fighter Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire will contend for the WBO junior featherweight title against the Puerto Rican former titlist Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. during a doubleheader titled “Welcome to the Future” at Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, to be aired on ABS-CBN on Sunday (Feb 5), 10:15 a.m.

The co-main event, also a title fight, will be a battle between Mexican sluggers Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and first-ranked challenger Marco Antonio Rubio.

The three-division world champion Donaire (27-1-0 18 KOs), who will stake his 26-bout winning streak, will once again be traipsing into new territory as he climbs up to the 122-pound class, a division once ruled by the younger Vazquez (21-1-1 18 KOs).

The pugilist from Puerto Rico entrenched himself in the title in 2010, when he knocked out General Santos City-native Marvin Sonsona. Vazquez Jr, the son of former world champion Wilfredo Vazquez Sr, defended the title twice, but fell prey to the Mexican fighter Jorge Arce in 2011.

Arce has since relinquished the title in order to fight at 118 pounds and Vazquez is poised to reclaim glory. But for Donaire, who was the Philippine Sportswriters Association’s co-Athlete of the Year for 2011, it may be an opportune time to embellish his resume with yet another division title.

Cherie Mercado explores life of slaughterhouse’s matansero in Insider’s premiere this Thursday

Where do steaks, chops or any of your favorite meats come from? Insider gives viewers a taste of a butcher’s life as Kapatid news anchor Cherie Mercado goes inside the meatpacking district this Thursday on TV5 and Aksyon TV.

Even after 16 years of doing human interest stories, covering environmental issues and tackling the various challenges of modern times, Cherie admits that looking into the ins and outs of Manila’s biggest slaughterhouse proved to be a challenge. “I knew what to expect [from this assignment], yet it still did not come up to what it was actually like. In the slaughterhouse, you hear hundreds of pigs wailing all at the same time. Some pigs cry louder that the others, especially when they seem to know that they’re about to face their end,” Cherie shares.

For an animal lover like Cherie, seeing the pigs die before her eyes doubled the toughness of her slaughterhouse immersion. “I'm an animal lover and guilty of not doing more to protect animals, so this was extra tough for me. But I saw it in the perspective of the workers—the blood in their hands every night translates to earnings to feed their families and provide shelter for their children. It’s all a day's work for the many matanseros (butchers) we met,” she continued.

Witness a different side of the seasoned journalist as she gets down and dirty to see what it takes to survive in this kind of business. Learn what a little sweat and a lot of blood can earn a typical butcher these days and find out whether slaughterhouses still follow the sanitation standards set by the government for the Filipino consumers.

Don’t miss "Cherie’s Insider" take on the life inside the slaughterhouse this Thursday (February 2) 10:15pm after "P.S. I Love You" on TV5. There is also a one-hour Producer’s Cut at an earlier timeslot, 7:30pm on Aksyon TV (Channel 41 in Mega Manila, Channel 29 in Metro Cebu and Davao, Channel 1 on Cignal Digital TV and Channel 59 on Sky Cable).
