Janna Dominguez admits to dating Jose Sarasola

“Di ko po ititigil yung sing along bars, kasi yun po yung training ground ko as an artist and at the same time yun po kasi ang naging stepping stone ko into showbiz. Sana more projects to come.”

So sabi namin may iba-iba na kaming buhay so sabi naming mas magandang friends muna kami dito sa Pilipinas.”

TNS National TV Ratings (Feb. 17-19): Family dramas preferred by most viewers

It's business as usual for the Kapamilya shows as they continue to dominate the primetime race, based on the national overnight ratings of Taylor Nelson Sofres (TNS). In fact, they occupy the Top 5 slots with another one included in the Top 10.

The family drama May Bukas Pa leads the onslaught, reaching as high as 40.9 percent (February 19).

The comedy-drama I Love Betty La Fea and the heavy-drama Tayong Dalawa shared the No. 2 spot; Betty La Fea last Tuesday and Tayong Dalawa on Wednesday and Thursday.

Primetime newscast TV Patrol World and showbiz-oriented show Showbiz News Ngayon took the fourth and fifth spots, respectively.

The rest of the Top 10 was occupied by the following shows, in this order: GMA-7's Luna Mystika, Gagambino, Ang Babaeng Hinugot Sa Aking Tadyang, and 24 Oras, and ABS-CBN's Pinoy Fear Factor.

The daytime race is an entirely different story.

Although ABS-CBN's noontime show Wowowee is relatively still the highest-rated daytime show, GMA-7 soap Saan Darating ang Umaga? is posing a big threat. In fact, this Sine Novela starring Yasmien Kurdi managed to grab the No. 1 spot last Tuesday, Feb. 17.

While placing second to Wowowee last Wednesday and Thursday, Saan Darating ang Umaga's numbers are not that far behind—22 percent vs. 19.8 percent and 22.7 vs. 20.9 percent.

Other daytime Kapuso shows are also doing very well. Paano Ba ang Mangarap?, starring Jennylyn Mercado and Mark Herras, consistently held on to the No. 3 spot. Eat Bulaga! and Daisy Siete managed to grab the fourth and fifth slots in some days.

Other shows consistently making it to the Top 10 are Pilipinas, Game KNB?, Pieta, Parekoy, Lalola, and Be Strong Geum Soon.

AGB Mega Manila TV Ratings (Feb. 17-19): Tayong Dalawa closes in on Luna Mystika

The fight for supremacy on primetime television is getting more exciting.

Although GMA-7's telefantasya, Luna Mystika, is still leading, another show is breathing down its neck. And this time, it's not another Kapuso show but from rival network ABS-CBN—the heavy drama Tayong Dalawa.

Tayong Dalawa, which boasts a powerhouse cast, placed second Wednesday (February 18) and Thursday (Feb. 19) after its fourth-place finish—tied with Ang Babaeng Hinugot Sa Aking Tadyang—last Tuesday (Feb. 17).

Also improving its numbers is ABS-CBN's family drama May Bukas Pa, which ranked sixth Tuesday and Wednesday but climbed to No. 3 Thursday.

Gagambino, which will end tonight, took the No. 2 spot Tuesday. Then, slipped to No. 3 Wednesday and No. 4 Thursday.

From its consistent second-place finish, Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera's soap, Ang Babaeng Hinugot Sa Aking Tadyang, fell a few steps the last three days—No. 4 last Tuesday and Wednesday and No. 6 last Thursday.

Newbie Showbiz News Ngayon (SNN), hosted by Boy Abunda and Kris Aquino, placed sixth Tuesday then slipped to seventh the following two nights.

It is also interesting to note that last night, three Kapamilya shows made it to the Top 5: Tayong Dalawa, May Bukas Pa, and I Love Betty La Fea; while only two from GMA-7—Luna Mystika and Gagambino did.

In the daytime race, Kapuso network's afternoon soap Saan Darating ang Umaga? continues to produce primetime-like ratings to lead all programs.

GMA-7's noontime show Eat Bulaga! took the No. 2 slot Tuesday and Wednesday, but slipped to No. 3 Thursday.

The one-week-old soap, Paano Ba ang Mangarap?, placed third Tuesday and Wednesday then climbed to No. 2 Thursday.

Daisy Siete and Wowowee occupied the fourth and fifths slots, respectively.

GMA Network issues reminder letter to Heart Evangelista for backing out in Muling Buksan ang Puso

(Click here to read related story.)

REMINDER LETTER.

"Dear Ms. Ongpauco, "This pertains to the agreement for talent services between you and GMA Network. We were informed that your managers are turning down a program assigned by GMA to you owing to some alleged restrictions contained in your endorsement contract with Centrum. "May we remind you of relevant provisions of the Agreement, as follows: "1. Talent hereby warrants and represents that: (a) she has full power and authority to enter into and perform this agreement; and ( b) she has no other contract with any other person, firm, corporation or other entity which will or might interfere with the execution or performance of this agreement (Emphasis: ours). 4.2. In case of breach by TALENT af any provision of this Agreement or of any of Talent's warranties and representations, GMA may in addition to and without prejudice to any other remedy, recover liquidated damages from TALENT in the amount equivalent to TALENT's Minimum Guarantee for the first year (Php15M) of this Agreement. "We have not been furnished a copy of the Centrum contract. If such restrictions do exist, and if you cannot perform the talent services for the program assigned to you because of such restrictions, you would be in clear breach of your warranty under the Agreement. In that event, we shall proceed to avail of legal remedies in order to protect our interests. We trust you will understand our position on this matter."

THE REPLY.

"Gentlemen: "For and behalf of our client, Ms. Annabelle Rama-Gutierrez, we reply to your letter dated 10 February 2009 addressed to Ms. Love Marie Ongapuco a.k.a Heart Evangelista, copy furnished to Ms. Gutierrez as manager of said contract artist. "Firstly, our client has instructed us to correct the allegation in your letter that Ms. Ongpauco's managers were turning down a program assigned to her by GMA because of restrictions in her endorsement contract with Centrum. "During the meeting with GMA representatives, Ms. Ongpauco's managers, including our client, did turn down the network's proposal to have Ms. Ongpauco appear in the television series "Muling Buksan Ang Puso", but their refusal was based NOT on any contract restriction imposed by Centrum, but because the role offered would adversely damage and prejudice Ms. Ongpauco's public image and reputation. "Ms. Ongpauco is only 23 years old, and enjoys a reputation for appearing in wholesome, family-oriented roles and programs. The role offered by GMA could handly be described as "wholesome." It would include kissing scenes, bed scenes, dialogue and scenes depicting the proposed character as a mature woman competing with another for the affections of a man. In short, the role was perceived by Ms. Ongpauco's managers as being too mature for their artist. If this role was accepted, it would tarnish her image with her fan base, and would ultimately prejudice her highly-successful career. "Indeed, Ms. Ongpauco's managers were disappointed and upset that GMA was willing to risk their artist's career and reputation on such a controversial role. Ms. Ongpauco is one of the lead artists in "Luna Mystika," a top-rated, primetime and very wholesome television program. GMA should have known, or at the very least should have considered, that having Ms. Ongpauco appear in a role in direct contrast to her current show would not be well received by the viewing public. "We reiterate and underscore therefore that your representatives clearly misrepresented the deliberations, since the mature nature of the offered role was the principal reason for its rejection. "Secondly, we have reviewed Ms. Ongpauco's contract with GMA, and take this opportunity to highlight issues in relation to specific contractual terms: "a. On the obligations of the Talent detailed in Paragraph 2 and its sub-paragraphs: These paragraphs clearly spell out the projects that the Talent would be assigned in the first year, and these were limited to: (I) Lead actress role in "Asero", (II) Lead actress in "Saan Darating Ang Umaga", (III) Lead actress in a Koreanovela, (IV) Host/performer of SOP, and (V), guestings in programs and specials. "The contract was executed on 30 May 2008, hence the parties are still in the first year of the contract. The role that was offered and refused was not among the projects that the Talent agreed to do in the first year. Further, it is GMA that has not complied with the contractual terms, since Ms. Ongpauco was not the lead actress in "Saan Darating Ang Umaga", nor has she been given the Koreanovela project. It is our client who must now insist that GMA comply with its obligation to have Ms. Ongpauco appear as lead actress in a Koreanovela series. "b. Taping days and hours: Paragraph 3.6 of the talent contract provides that Ms. Ongpauco's taping day would be only up to 3:00 am per day. "Records will confirm that this provision was violated on several occassions, with taping days running as late as 8:00 0r 9:00 am, hence an excess of as much as six ( 6 ) hours on taping days. In a letter dated 04 February 2009 addressed to GMA's Ms. Sally de Castro, Ms. Ongpauco's manager Ma. Cecilia Ongpauco called the network's attention to the fact that the Talent was being made to work beyond the 3:00 am deadline with no overtime pay paid, and Ms. Cecilia Ongpauco provided documents evidencing the release of the Talent beyond the contracted deadline on numerous taping days. "For and or behalf of our client, we reiterate the demand for payment of overtime pay, and further, put the network on notice that paragraph 3.6 of the contract is being continuously violated. "c. Endorsement agreements - The contract does not bar or restrict the Talent from endorsing products, neither does it require the Talent to furnish GMA with a copy of endorsements agreements. Hence, Ms. Ongpauco has absolutely no legal obligation to furnish the network with a copy of any contract which she may have executed to promote specific products or services. "We trust that this reply sufficiently addresses the issues and concerns you raised in your letter dated 10 February 2009. Thank you for your attention."

AGB Mega Manila TV Ratings (Feb. 13-16): Kapuso shows still lead

Five new shows debuted yesterday, February 16; three from GMA-7 and two from ABS-CBN.

From the Kapuso network, the shows that premiered yesterday were Sine Novela Presents Paano Ba ang Mangarap?, which reunites the pair of Jennylyn Mercado and Mark Herras with Hero Angeles; the subbed original Argentinian series Lalola; and the new Taiwanese romantic series Fated To Love You.

ABS-CBN, on the other hand, had the new morning talk show Ruffa and Ai hosted by Ruffa Gutierrez and Ai-Ai delas Alas, and the primetime showbiz talk show SNN: Showbiz News Ngayon, hosted by the tandem of Boy Abunda and Kris Aquino. Boy and Kris used to host the daily show Boy & Kris, which was replaced by Ruffa and Ai.

Paano Ba ang Mangarap? placed third in the daytime race on its pilot episode with 21.9 percent; behind leaders Saan Darating ang Umaga? (a whopping 28.1 percent!) and Eat Bulaga! (23.2 percent).

Lalola, which took the timeslot of the Mexicanovela Rosalinda, took the sixth spot with 14.7 percent; behind fourth-placer Daisy Siete (18 percent) and fifth-placer Wowowee (15.5 percent).

Although Ruffa and Ai failed to squeeze in the Top 10, it slightly edged out rival show SiS. The pilot episode of Ruffa and Ai got 8.8 percent while SiS posted a rating of 8.7 percent.

SNN, which acquired a 26.2 percent rating on its premiere, managed to take the No. 8 spot in the primetime race where six shows reached the 30-plus mark. These are Luna Mystika (37 percent), Ang Babaeng Hinugot Sa Aking Tadyang (33.2 percent), Gagambino (32.4 percent), May Bukas Pa (31.6 percent), 24 Oras (30.3 percent), and Tayong Dalawa (30.3 percent).

Three other Kapamilya shows occupied the rest of the Top 10: I Love Betty La Fea (No. 7), TV Patrol World (No. 9), and Pinoy Fear Factor (22.6 percent).

Overall, Kapuso shows still dominate the daytime and primetime race. Luna Mystika, Saan Darating ang Umaga?, and Eat Bulaga! leading the pack among weekday programs while SOP, Mel & Joey, Imbestigador, and Eat Bulaga! were the topraters among weekend shows.

Matt Evans and Melissa Ricks star in the TV version of Underage

The next chapter of Your Song Presents will be the remake of the 80’s movie Underage. The upcoming series will feature the young love team of Matt Evans and Melissa Ricks who were last seen in the teleserye Iisa Pa Lamang with Claudine Barretto and Gabby Concepcion. At the story conference of Your Song Presents: Underage last Wednesday, February 11, Matt and Melissa said that they will be taking on more mature roles in their new drama mini-series. However, they clarified that the TV version will not be as sexy as the original film. “This is different. Magpapakita kami ng konting skin. This is another step na naman. We’re still teenagers but we’re going into the transition of becoming adults na. May ilang ‘sensitive scenes’ dito kaya ‘yun ang pinaghahandaan namin,” said Melissa.

Your Song Presents: Underage will be the initial offering in the ABS-CBN ‘teenserye’ which will be the adaptation of some well loved Pinoy teen flicks from the 80’s. Underage was released by Regal Films in 1980 and became the launch pad of Dina Bonnevie, Snooky Serna, and Maricel Soriano as young-adult actresses. Melissa admitted that she is feeling pressured because she will be stepping into the role done by Dina in the original movie. “Malaki ang pressure. I’ll be playing the role done by Dina Bonnevie so I really have to get to know the character. It’s very challenging. Pero excited din kami lahat because we get to give Underage a different a twist dito sa gagawin namin.”

The love team of Matt, a Pinoy Big Brother ex-teen housemate, and Melissa, a Star Circle Quest finalist, began working together in Komiks Presents Pedro Penduko. From then on the two starred in a string of TV dramas and have also grown comfortable with each other. But after a while naging close na rin kami because we’re very much alike. Magkaibigan kami kasi nagkakasundo kami sa maraming bagay,” shared Melissa. Matt however confessed that they would often have disagreements, but they always make it a point to patch things up.

Top 10 highest TV ratings for imported TV series- Philippines

In the late 90’s, Mexican telenovelas invaded Philippine television spearheaded by Marimar. In 2003, it’s Asianovela’s turn to hit the country by storm by the airing of Meteor Garden from Taiwan. Check out our exclusive ranking of the 10 Most Successful Imported and Tagalized TV Series in our local boobtube.

Top 10 Imported and Tagalized TV Series by peak rating:

1. Rosalinda (1999, ABS-CBN) - 69.8%

2. Meteor Garden (2003, ABS-CBN) - 63.8%

3. Marimar (1994, RPN9) - 61.7%

4. Maria Mercedes (1996, ABS-CBN) - 59.7%

5. Full House (2004, GMA) - 52.0%

6. Lovers in Paris (2004, ABS-CBN) - 45.7%

7. Stairway to heaven (2004, GMA) - 41.5%

8. Jewel in the Palace (2006, GMA) - 40.3%

9. My Name is Kim Sam Soon (2006, GMA) - 40.1%

10. Endless Love: Autumn in My Heart (2003, GMA) - 39.7%

Note: Ratings were based from the overnight tabulation of AGB Nielsen Philippines in Mega Manila as of July 2008. Take note that the figures are from a single highest recorded episode of the show and it’s NOT the average over-all ratings for the whole season.

TRIVIA:

RPN 9 started the telenovela craze in the country in 1996 when it aired its second tagalized Mexican telenovela, “Marimar.” ABS-CBN followed the trend by airing Maria Mercedes, another popular telenovela starring the star of Marimar, Thalia.

Bright Girl is the first Koreanovela aired on Philippine television. However, it was Endless Love: Autumn in My Heart which became the first successful koreanovela in the tv ratings. It was also touted as the series that made way to other koreanovelas in the country. GMA aired its first run in September of 2003 and due to insistent public demand, it was re-aired twice in 2004.

Due to the success of Meteor Garden and Endless Love, the term Asianovela became a popular slang in the Philippines. It pertains to dubbed South Korean, Japanese and Chinese/Taiwanese TV series.

The word Asianovela comes from the words “Asia” or “Asian” and “Novela” from the word “Telenovela”. This term was created to define the difference of a normal telenovela to Asian-produced telenovelas. The slang was first used on local internet forums, then became widely used by Filipino people.

The very first Asianovela shown in the Philippines was Amazing Twins, a Taiwanese TV series in July 2002 on IBC-13, but it gained no popularity in the Philippines despite that it was dubbed into Tagalog language.

Meteor Garden is probably the first successful Asianovela to hit the Philippines. When ABS-CBN started airing its tagalized version in 2003, it peaked to an astounding 63.8%, the 3rd highest tv rating registered in Philippine television history.

Wowowee sa Dubai Comments

Here are some of the comments of the people who watched Wowowee in Dubai on January 30, 2009 :

From
berto :

Hi!! I went to Wowowee show yesterday in Dubai , my friends and I came straight from Abu Dhabi , we reached the venue at exactly 12noon which we knew that the gate will open on this time, we were so DISAPPOINTED when we saw the venue, it's like a desert that they just put a stage on it. Given that the Ticket price is cheap (60dirhams.=780pesos) but they don't have to treat people from Middle East like this. They had shows in the States and Canada and they held these in a venue where people can enjoy the show like in Arena/Stadium.

What do they think about us people from the Middle East ? We can afford a hundred dollar ticket for a wonderful show of Wowowee instead of a cheap ticket for a stressful one. They tag you OFW when you work in the Middle East and when you work like in the states then they call you BALIKBAYAN. But the fact is that people who work in the Middle East are mostly Professionals like Engineers, Architects, Nurses, and most of the Filipinos here work in the offices. And we send more money to the Philippines which is a big help to the Philippines economic growth, compared to the immigrants/citizens from the States, since most of them are already with their families and they don’t have to send money monthly to the Philippines .

So why treat us like this? The show was a disaster, it's like trying to have fun while sacrificing... imagine that!? Anyway, going back to what I have experienced going to this Wowowee show, my friends and I just decided to go to a nearby mall and just waited there until 3pm because of so much heat that we cannot take at the venue. We went back to the venue at exactly 3pm and there were too many people inside, the height of the stage is low so the tendency is that people at the back would not be able to see anymore the artists performing on the stage especially when you are only 5'2 in height like I am. I kept on stretching my neck just to see the show. It was like only for a second to see the artists and then trying to tip my toes just to see them again and again, you cannot even go with the flow of the program since I kept on thinking what I should do or where we should stay just to see the performers. I wasn’t even able to see the production number of I think Valerie and Mr. Lito Camo even for a second. Guess what?!

There were I think 2 or 3 big screens and when I was watching them on it I just realized that I'd rather watch Wowowee at home, relaxing while having coffee instead of going to that Wowowee show in Dubai while perspiring and having body ache that I almost passed out. Given that there were a lot of people who watched the show but I tell you that these people had 10% of happiness and 90% of unforgettable bad, mischievous, unsatisfied, stressful and nerve-racking experience.

Why did the management of ABS-CBN and especially the family of Wowowee let this happened. It’s so discriminating to us Filipino People from the Middle EAST. We envy the Filipino people from the other countries like from the USA and Canada , you treat them so special and dearly, you see them wealthy or commonly called “SOSYAL” while Filipinos from the Middle East , you see us down-and-out or so called “JOLOGS”. OOPS! One thing more! When Mr.Willie Revillame welcomed the audience, he forgot to mention the people from ABU DHABI , he or the Wowowee management not even know that Abu Dhabi is the capital of UAE and how come they forgot to welcome us???

I just hope that this comment will reach Mr. Willie Revillame...

Thank you...

I agree with the previous comment... I waited for 2 hours just to see willie and leave after an hour because i didn't even see his hair... They set up a stage wherein the people at the back cannot see. They set up projectors but only 1 is working and its too small.. And as if it will work... hello its 3 pm....

So dont say that its a success because its not... When i went to the mall in dfc i can hear the filipinos saying that its not worth it and that they did not see willie.. Its a waste of time and money...

i pity those old kababayans and the kids... Im so scared that time that another stampede will happen.

You dont care about the people.... Its not organized...

I am calling all those people who watched to say ur comments...

I agree with you. wowowee show is sold out, around 20,000 people were there. sadly i have seen people leaving before the show started. i belive, it should have been better if the show started around 6pm... we were there too...

we were almost near to the stage, unfortunately, we had to leave the place even before pera o bayong started coz we cant bear the heat and tiredness, standing and waiting for 3 hours is not worth it as most of our fellow kababayans eagerly pushing us from behind.

They even started the show very late!!! hello we are not in Philippines, and all of us in Dubai are prompt. DFC is a new place for CONCERT!!! not a noontime show!!! and since this is the only place who can accomodate 20K people, they should have sold tickets by box type, not free standing. and ABS-CBN management should realise that most Filipinos living in Dubai are more sosyal than those in US or Europe.

WHY? Because we can afford to spend holidays and visit Philippines once or twice a year... Kaya ba ng taga US yon??? NO, cause they cant afford it.

The whole family went to wowowee event last Friday.. We are all DISAPPOINTED AND DEFINITELY WE WILL STOP WATCHING ANY SHOW OF WOWOWEE SHOW. AND ORGANIZED BY THE TFC IN DUBAI. They are inhuman to organize a family show in the dessert under the heat of the sun, no chair, no proper entrance. And to the fact that many has no ticket but able to manage to go inside. Also, the did not start on time. People came their early in the morning with mix emotion like we are expecting that we will have fun in the show. Those organizers or even the producers must anticipated that audience will bring their childrens with them since it is a family show.

To our surprise, the place is not even good for children. Every move you need it will cost you DHs. 5. The water is 5x expensive from the price in the grocery store.. and you have to buy wowowee shirt or jacket in order for you to be part of the pera o bayong.. its definitely a good business.. Willie keep on saying they came here to bring us joy.. I mean willie have you check the place? have you even notice the situation of the people and especially those children who are not lucky enought to be infront of the stage? and if you really want us to be happy why you allow your staff not to start on time? you fool us all.

Probably you came here because of the money the show will earn with the tickets, souvenirs, rent, etc. If you want us all happy you should have arrange a schedule where people can sign autograph, take pictures and talk to them with you and your staff. You just keep on telling those words but its those are only for "Showbiz"! And also, to the ABS CBN.. you have given us a bigatin card and you are saying it is like a VIP card. in that said event how can we become a VIP? with the place you choose. You should set a place where we can enjoy your BIGATIN! Everything is business with you guys but not for the people. I am so disappointed with ABS CBN and WOWOWEE shows especially to the staff (Marielle, Pokwang, valery, etc.) except Mariposa and charice.

They really shows their dedication of their job where they truly approach people and allow them to take pictures with them even i was not given an opportunity but seeing them loving their job is totally a cool person. Keep it up.

For others, you might be artist and we are watching you in the tv but you shows no deidication it makes me feel you a low paid actresses..P.S. Starting Friday I did not watch your show and I even discourage my daughter to watch you. You make her look a fool on that show begging for one picture but you SNUB us..

it is indeed a disaster the Wowowee show in Dubai..the organisers were so greedy for the money, they dont care how the viewers/fans feel with the heat of the sun at 12nn.,bare in mind that we are not in december were approaching the summer heat..

the ABS-CBN management itself as well dont bother to anticipate the crowd as they knew it weeks prior the show the ticket is almost sold out...wake up ABS-CBN TFC management...hope that Madame Charo Santos Concio who is present also in d show should opened her eyes widely so she can see how difficult for the viewers.,good for her coz she was sitting der on the big stage where they made for the VIP's...and after the show the hosts riding with the white VAN..dey dont even bother to open the curtains from d inside so kahit plastikan lang sana nag wave sila sa kanilang mga kamay but d yan talaga nangyari..

i appreciated Saicy coz she when gots down form d van she bothers to wave her hand..thanks Saicy..and d rest pati yong director na c Manahan na naka upo sa front seat ng van-deadma lang talaga...

How unprofessional and unethical of you people, that because of the noontime shows na pinag-aawayan nyo, the OFWs working “back-breakingly” hard here in the middle east would be put into such a demoralized state.

Is this the Filipino value that schools teach nowadays?

I am an OFW working here in Abu Dhabi. I planned to watch Wowowee in Dubai with my sister. But unfortunately, i had to work on Fridays. So i passed. If EB was there, i would have planned to watch too. Both noontime shows are famous in Pinas, and both lessen the feeling of being homesick para sa mga kababayan natin dito sa abroad. I am a proud pinoy because of these shows. They know how to entertain people not only in our own country, but pati na rin sa malalayong lugar na kailangan mo ng “kabayan” to think that you’re not alone, and that you can keep up with life kahit gaano kahirap ang bansang iniwan mo.

Now if these ideas wouldn’t be enough to get you off your usual ways of neverending and nonsensical fights, then you all suck!

It is good to patronize Filipino products and shows. However, on that day, you will not definitely feel you were treated as Filipino as they are calling as OFW and not kababayan. I hope people should know what is the different with these words. If you are an artists or a host you should feel how the people sacrifices to fall in line under the heat of the sun and waited for more than 2 hours to think that they will start on time.

What makes it worst, they started 3:40 pm and they did not even apologize for the delay. See the photos.. can you stand for more than 2 hours in the crowd like that? And willie keep on saying they came to Dubai to make us happy, did everybody having time? actually we are all excited that the camera will come on our way so that our faces will be shown in the tv and our relatives in Philippines can see us. But focus again to the artist, your calling their names and you also expected that you can take their pictures especially those BIGATIN card holders, did those artist bother to say hi and acknowledge peoples request? It is so shameful to say this to your kababayan but we have to tell the truth so that they will improve it ( I hope so).. truly disappointing and shameful...

Most of the comments in Wowowee sa Dubai! show is not good. I am hoping that ABS-CBN will do something about this especially on how they treated other Filipinos who attended that show.

Rhian Ramos is the leading lady of “Zorro”!

The story conference of Zorro was held last February 2, and it was officially announced that Rhian Ramos will be the leading lady of Richard Guttierez in “Zorro”.

This will be the fourth time that Rhian will be paired up with Richard. Rhian’s first TV project was Captain Barbell, which was portrayed by Richard. This was followed by Lupin and Codename: Asero, although it was really Heart Evangelista who Richard ended up with.

As for Richard’s other leading lady’s identity is still a secret. Although, according to source, the role was given to another talent of Richard’s mom and manager, Annabelle [Rama].

TJ Trinidad, one of the newest talents of Richard’s mother and a former Kapamilya talent, will play the main villain in Zorro.

Exclusive: Janelle Jamer, nanganak nga ba sa US?

Gary Granada airs his side on copyright issue with GMA Kapuso Foundation

PEP.PH - Folk artist Gary Granada is asking for the support of fellow artists to join him in his crusade against the GMA Kapuso Foundation for allegedly "stealing" an original idea and disregarding the law concerning intellectual property rights.

"Gaya ng nakasanayan sa advertising industry, binigyan nila ako ng lyrics which I'm supposed to set to music na dapat ang haba ay 60 seconds," said the singer-songwriter, whose popular mainstream compositions include "‘Pag Nanalo ang Ginebra" and "Mabuti Pa Sila," among others. As a songwriter commissioned to lend his expertise to a project, Gary pointed out his right to tweak and change a few, or if necessary, a number of lines he felt necessary to fit the melody he had in mind.

The final study submitted by Gary, unfortunately, was turned down thus allowing the client to scout for other composers who might meet their vision for the project. A seasoned songwriter well versed on the business side of the entire trade, Gary reiterated he has no problem dealing with his client's final judgment whether to accept or reject his proposal.

The problem started when Gary heard the approved jingle played on the airwaves purportedly done by a different composer. Gary claimed that the version used by his former clients resembles the "rejected" study he initially submitted.

Gary continued, "Nagsumbong ako sa FILSCAP, ‘yon po yong Filipino Society of Composers Authors and Publishers.

The letter containing the points raised by Gary and FILSCAP reportedly fell on deaf ears, which the songsmith labeled as an "arrogant" gesture on GMA-7 part.

Gary likewise lashed out at the network's legal team for its statement challenging his argument by saying that the material was a collective effort, meaning that Gary has no right to claim sole ownership of the idea, more importantly the lyrics used for the jingle.

Ganun pala ‘yong mag-compose collectively," Gary said sarcastically.

And you have the audacity to tell me that my composition is our collective effort?"

GMA NETWORK RELEASES OFFICIAL STATEMENT

In an official statement sent by the GMA Kapuso Foundation over the weekend, the charity institution distanced itself from the material in question by saying that it "had nothing at all to do with the composition of the music of the writing of the lyrics."

The rest of the statement reads:

"Mr. Granada claims that the lyrics used for the plug is his version. We dispute that. GMA Marketing provided Mr. Granada the complete lyrics for the music he was supposed to compose. He changed a word in these lyrics. With due respect to Mr. Granda, that does not make the lyrics, under copyright law, his version or his work.

"Certainly, Mr. Granada cannot claim sole authorship of the lyrics because he himself admits that GMA provided the lyrics and that he ‘rewrote' portions of it, which means that he admits as well the authorship of the lyrics by GMA Marketing.

"Neither can he claim joint authorship of the lyrics. There is joint authorship when two requisites concur: (1) there must be an intention between the parties to be joint authors at the time the work was created, and (2) the contributions to the work of the party claiming to be a joint author must be independently copyrightable (see Erickson v. Trinity Theatre Inc, 13 F. 3d 1106[1994]).

"It is clear that the first requisite is lacking. For a work to be considered a "joint work," two or more persons must collaborate with the intent to create a unitary work. In this case, Mr. Granada was engaged by GMA Marketing to write the music to the lyrics that had already been completed by GMA. Neither GMA Marketing nor Mr. Granada intended to be joint authors of the lyrics.

"The second requisite is also clearly absent. The changes to the GMA lyrics, whether all or some of them originated from Mr. Granada, are mere ideas, or refinements to it. In the case cited, it was held that ideas, refinements, and suggestions, standing alone, are not independently copyrightable."

Gary Granada VS Kapuso

This is a recording of Gary Granada, a Filipino singer-songwriter, airing his complaint about how he was abused by some of the powers-that-be from GMA-7 Network. If you don't know who Gary Granada is, google him. His songs are both humorous and poignant. And though his songs cater to the common folk, they are accessible, easy to listen to and do not belittle his audience's intelligence nor taste. He is a BIG DEAL. So, for GMA execs to do this to him is an even BIGGER DEAL.

This is the TRANSCRIPT:

At nagiging madaling gawin, precisely because, sinukat na yung piyesa nung gumawa nung original.

Sa bawat bara you have theoritically dozens of possible combinations. That would be two times two times twenty seven times mong i-(http://foobarph.multiply.com)multiply.

The chances of that coincidence would be one in one hundred thirty four million two hundred seventeen thousand seven hundred twenty eight. At those odds, I think our dog has a better chance of becoming president of god-forsaken country, since they are throwing it to the dogs anyway.

Nagsumbong ako sa FILSCAP, yun po yung Filipino Society of Composers, Authors(http://rllqph.wordpress.com) and Publishers.

And you have the ordacity to tell me that my composition is our collective effort. In fairness to you, you have a very imaginative mind. Baka sabihin ngayon ng mga fans ko, sir, I have a collection of your collective compositions.

These changes we’re not made by Mr. Granada alone. One word from Mr. Granada or even three, assuming without admitting, that all changes were made by Mr. Granada does not make the piece his own.

It did not thirty days to finish that composition. It took me thirty years to hone the skill required to create that composition.

And if we will just let GMA Kapuso Foundation and Proctor and Gamble get away with it, that is like applauding their arrogance and condoning stealing. And to think that GMA as publisher, sits in the board of FILSCAP which protects the writes of composers and lyricist.

Kung hahayaan natin ito, what is now stopping anyone from commissioning artists in general to make studies only to reject them, make easily done modifications out of their hard work and pass them of as entirely new creation all together?

Ha… *sigh*

Which makes me wonder? Saan napunta ngayon yung puso sa GMA Kapuso Founcation?
