Tatak Pinoy: PDA Little Dreamers Philip Nolasco and Amy Nobleza to sing on Korean talent show

After besting the competition during the first season of the Pinoy Dream Academy Little Dreamers last year, Amy Nobleza and Philip Nolasco are set to conquer new ground

The two young singing sensations were invited by the major TV network SBS Korea to perform on the hit show Star King. Philip and Amy flew to South Korea on Friday, April 24, where they will be staying until Tuesday, April 28.

Gifted with superb singing voices at a very young age, Philip and Amy are expected to wow the audience of Star King. This is the same talent show where Charice performed before she was discovered by American talk show host Ellen DeGeneres. What followed was a series of appearances for Charice, including singing with Celine Dion at one of the diva’s concerts, performing with award-winning songwriter and producer David Foster, and the chance to sing at the pre-inaugural ball for then newly-elected US President Barack Obama.

Marian Rivera is the new Darna!

Kapamilya secure at no. 1 nationwide

The network battle for leadership is like the pervading mood in the country’s political arena in which the opposition of various persuasions are hopelessly trying to pull President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo down who remains unscathed by threats of protests, impeachment, and unrelenting criticism of her administration.

It can be said of ABS-CBN, which for the last two decades have remained the country’s biggest and leader in the broadcast industry.

Recently, it lost ground in the Mega Manila and Urban Luzon areas, yet it continues to uphold its leadership in the national TV ratings with an overall audience share of 44 percent or 8 percentage points higher than GMA’s 36 percent, based on the data from global research specialist Taylor Nelson Sofres (TNS) for the period of March 1 to 31, 2009.

The Kapuso network, by the way, swears by the data being provided by AGB Nielsen, which had serviced both broadcast and advertising industries longer than TNS.

Vivian Tin, head of ABS-CBN Research and Business Analysis, said the network’s programs, as per figures in the TNS survey, dominate the primetime block, clinching seven out of the top 10 slots with May Bukas Pa (39.1percent), I Love Betty La Fea (37.5 percent), and Tayong Dalawa (36.2 percent) leading in March 2009.

She said Tayong Dalawa is doing very well that the number of applicants to enter the Philippine Military Academy has become “phenomenal,” while I Love Betty La Fea continues to inspire people.

TV Patrol World (31.9 percent) continues to be the country’s leading TV news program, while Maalaala Mo Kaya? (32.6 percent) and Rated K (30.6 percent) have been performing strongly on weekends. Wowowee (22.0 percent) is the only noontime program that made it to the Top 20.

ABS-CBN continues to register very strong performances in Northern and Southern Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao.

The network’s ratings in Metro Manila has been on a fast roller-coaster ride, but still failed to stabilize its bid for an upset victory over Kapuso. Meanwhile its ratings in the suburbs and Central Luzon have remarkably improved due to the ongoing retrofitting of the network’s tower and the introduction of UHF channels in provinces like Bulacan and Pampanga.

“We are increasing our tower height in Metro Manila, which will allow us to have further propagation in signal, and changing our antenna type. We expect improvements in reception in suburbs starting mid-year,” she said. “In Central Luzon, we have set up UHF channels so viewers can watch our programs and this has addressed the problem.”

In terms of socioeconomic class, the TNS data shows ABS-CBN continues to be the choice of empowered consumers. It is leading in 85 percent of the total Philippine households or those belonging to classes AB, C, and D. It is also leading in 70 percent of the country’s areas.

TNS is currently the world’s and the Philippines’ leading customized market research company. It is the dominant TV ratings provider in China and offers the same service in Singapore, Korea, Hong Kong, and other parts of the world. It recently bagged a prestigious TV ratings contract in the UK, edging out rival AGB-Nielsen.

Now, the battle strategy is nearly like the one launched by Mao-Tse Tung when the Chinese Communist Party drove the Koumintangs out of the mainland. If you remember Asian history, the call was “From the countryside to the city.” That’s the Kapamilya way these days.

Is Edu Manzano leaving his Pilipinas Game KNB job to son Luis?

This early, talks have already been circulating regarding OMB Chairman Edu Manzano’s running for the Senatorial seat in 2010. ABS-CBN.com had a talk with Chairman Edu just the other day at agad na itinanong sa kanya ng mainit na pinag-uusapan tungkol sa diumano’y pagtakbo niya. “Well, there have been invitations (to run), I’m just testing the waters,” sabi ni OMB Chairman Edu. If he decides to run, Chairman Edu says he has to give up all his shows dahil nga November pa lang ay magiging abala na ang mga kakandidato sa kanilang pagtakbo. So, does this mean he has to give up Pilipinas Game KNB?, the show he considers his baby? “Ahh, no. Pagkatapos ko, ang anak ko (Luis Manzano), then ang magiging anak niya. Dynasty nga kami riyan eh,” pabirong sagot nito.

Bukod sa kanyang balak na pagtakbo bilang Senador, masasabing Edu is a picture of a proud father lalo na ‘pag ang anak niyang si Luis ang pinag-uusapan. He recalled at the time when almost everyone got mad at him for not allowing Luis to participate in any showbiz events like commercials, parties and even TV appearances. Chairman Edu told ABS-CBN. Com, he knew, he made the right decision then. “Ang daming umaaway sa akin noon, tumitira. Bakit daw ‘di ko ipinapakita si Luis, bakit ko raw ipinagdadamot ang anak ko?” He explained further his reasons. “Nu’ng nagkausap kami noon ni Vi (Governor Vilma Santos), sinabi ko, ako na ang bahala sa pagpapa-aral kay Luis. Pero hindi muna siya pwedeng mag-artista hangga’t hindi pa niya natatapos ang pag-aaral niya. Nu’ng malapit na siyang mag-graduate, siyempre, deep inside, hinihintay ko rin ‘yung time when he’s going to finish para magawa na rin niya ang gusto niya.” Aminado rin si Edu na he knows that it’s also hard for Luis to be known as the son of Edu Manzano at Vilma Santos. “Kaya ang bata, he is trying hard to also prove himself, to do something for himself.”

On the other hand, ABS-CBN.com also learned that Chairman Edu is also busy with his advocacy campaign Ako Mismo, this non-political campaign talks about how to start life without depending so much from others. ABS-CBN.Com was quick to ask if Gov. Vi is invited to be part of this campaign? Msgr. Soc Villegas, Charice Pempenco, Luis and some big names in the local industry and civic society are among those who take part in endorsing this advocacy campaign.

Pinoy version of 'Maid in Manhattan' is next for Toni Gonzaga

Actress Toni Gonzaga revealed that her next big project this year is a Filipino television version of "Maid in Manhattan" which originally featured Hollywood star Jennifer Lopez.

Gonzaga, who will be doing one of the stories for ABS-CBN's upcoming afternoon series "Precious Hearts Romances: Ang Lalaking Nagmahal Sa Akin", said that she is really excited about her upcoming series.

She says will surely capture everyone's hearts with its light romantic themes.

"'Yon din ang naisip ko actually, 'Maid in Manhattan' Hollywood version pero this is the Pinoy version talaga at makaka-relate 'yong may mga ganitong pinagdadaanan. Pang-Pinoy talaga," Gonzaga said.

The Hollywood film "Maid in Manhattan" tells the story of a rich hotel guest, played by Ralph Fiennes, who meets a seemingly rich socialite, played by Lopez, who is in reality just a hotel chambermaid. In a series of comic mishaps and elaborate deceptions, the two eventually fall in love.

Gonzaga, however, said that it took a long time for her to consider taking on a television projects since she had been busy concentrating on her hosting jobs and recording career.

"I concentrated on other things like singing and hosting and at the same time I did a movie last year. At pagkatapos ng pelikula, medyo naghinay-hinay din pero hindi completely igi-give up ang pag-acting kasi masarap ding umarte," she said.

Gonzaga told abs-cbnNEWS.com that it was an honor for her to be given a chance to do another big television project especially one directed by well-known television and film director Wenn Deramas.

She also doesn't mind that "Ang Lalaking Nagmahal Sa Akin" will be aired on an afternoon timeslot. "Okay lang kahit anong oras yan, kahit panghapon, tanghali o gabi okay sa akin basta may trabaho," she said.

'New leading man'

Meanwhile, Gonzaga said she is thrilled to be working for the first time with one of ABS-CBN's favorite leading men, hunk actor Derek Ramsay.

"This time makaka-partner ko na siya, walang expectation im just really looking forward sa mga eksena namin at sa trabaho naming gagawin kasi feeling ko magiging maganda 'yong kalalabasan niya at magdadala dito yung kwento mismo," she said.

Gonzaga recalled that she only got the chance to see Ramsay whenever they would see each other briefly inside the ABS-CBN compound.

"Lagi kaming nagkikita sa compound ng ABS-CBN pero ano lang talaga kami 'hi' and 'hello.' Pinakamatagal na 'yong one minute na magbatian kasi may kanya-kanya [kaming] trabaho, kanya-kanyang proyekto, so 'hi' and 'hello' lang," she said.

Gonzaga and Ramsay had previously done a hosting job together for the defunct entertainment show "Entertainment Konek."

ABS-CBN Celebrates Pinoy Talent and Heroism in Japan

An entertainment-packed event coupled with a grand tribute to the heroic Filipinos in Japan was held recently in Tokyo. This is in celebration of TFC’s 15th anniversary and ABS-CBN Japan’s second year of operations.

The revelry started with the awarding of the Gawad Geny Lopez Jr. Bayaning Pilipino sa Gawing Japan followed by the staging of the free concert entitled 2D Next Level at the Sun Pearl Arakawa last March 7.

For the entertainment part, the Philippines’ Comedy Diva, Ai-Ai Delas Alas, took charge of bringing the house down with distinctly Pinoy humor. The top-caliber comedienne amused the audience with her hilarious antics that displayed her own brand of wit and candor. She was joined by much sought-after celebrity bachelors, singer-actor Sam Milby and crooner Richard Poon, who wooed the women in the audience with their own musical styles.

On the other hand, Philippine Embassy in Tokyo Labor Attaché Danilo Cruz led the honorable guests in paying tribute to unsung heroes who have made public service their personal mission and embody all that is good about the Filipino. Dignitaries in attendance included Minister Gina Jamoralin, First Consul Bong Cariño and Consul Anne De Vera.

UGAT Foundation, the organization that launched the original Gawad Geny Lopez Bayaning Pilipino Award in the Philippines in 1992, was also represented in the event by its Project Director Fr. Nilo Tanalega while ABS-CBN Japan Managing Director Jeff Remigio became ABS-CBN’s own representative to the first-ever staging of the awarding ceremony in the country.

Only four among a good number of Bayaning Pilipino nominees made it as finalists. They are Marie “Mayang” Nihei, who despite her success, has not forgotten her humble beginnings and continues to pay it forward through her creative efforts; Nestor Puno, who teaches Filipino youth in Japan while helping other migrants win their plights; Teresita Hosaka, a mother who despite her personal struggles has continued to face life’s challenges and help fight for the rights and welfare of children with disabilities; and Allison Opaon, who has been diligently promoting the Filipino culture in Japan.

It was Allison Opaon who won the reputable honor of being the grand winner of the Gawad Geny Lopez Jr. Bayaning Pilipino sa Gawing Japan, which will now be hosted by ABS-CBN Japan as an annual event.

On its third year of business, ABS-CBN Japan promises to continue providing premium entertainment to its patrons via TFCKo. In fact, it has already made sure that the riotous laughter provided by the Comedy Diva will continue on to the boob tube. This month, TFCko’s Cinema One Global features the movies of Ai-Ai Delas Alas. The line-up includes Shake Rattle and Roll 2K5, Ang Cute ng Ina Mo, Kapag Tumibok ang Puso (Not Once, But Twice), Pasukob and Ang Tanging Ina.

Angelica, hard drinker

INI-LAUNCH ang The Bar (Orange Vodka at Lemon-Lime Gin) sa bagong Eastwood Mall last Saturday night.

Jennylyn all-woman in concert

ON May 14 and 16, Jennylyn Mercado celebrates her birthday and marks her return to the concert scene with ‘I Am Woman,’ a two-night show at the Music Museum.

‘I Am Woman’ will be Jennylyn’s "time to shine" as a singer and performer. She will sing and dance onstage, in a repertoire that unleashes her deepest feelings about life, love and being a woman, from standards to pop, dance and OPM hits.

This will actually be Jennylyn’s second time to do a concert at the Music Museum. Her first was a sold-out affair. Also joining her in ‘I Am Woman’ are special guests Ogie Alcasid and Janno Gibbs, dashing balladeers Christian Bautista and Richard Poon, Gemma and Jasmine Fitzgerald. Upcoming singer Nico Antonio will be the front act.

However, it is the presence of Mark Herras that has audiences most intrigued. The two were reunited this year in the soap opera ‘Paano Ba ang Mangarap,’ which marks a more mature screen persona for both of them. The soap is rating well, and proves that Jennylyn still has solid support coming from her fans and the fans of her teamup with Mark.

Mark will do a dance number and will also perform a duet with Jen.

‘I Am Woman’ is a production of Eagle Eye Entertainment Production Inc. and JLC Entertainment. Tickets available at the Music Museum and Ticketworld outlets.

NINA INVITED TO GUEST IN STAR WORLD CHANNEL'S TALK SHOW - ASIA UNCUT

Soul Siren Nina was invited to guest in Star World Channel's Asia Uncut in Singapore. Asia Uncut is a talk show that accesses Asia’s people, places, and personalities in a familiar, yet fresh and fun, format. Hosted by American Jon Niermann, the show is imbued with the soul of the East and all about what’s happening in Asia. Niermann has very purposely created a format that is accessible, spirited, comedic, and sometimes edgy. It is current and now combining visiting international celebrities who want to make a mark in Asia with regional personalities. In order to accomplish this, not all guests are hosted in studio on the set. Instead, some guests are met by the host or other Asia Uncut regulars in the country they are visiting outside of the studio, where the viewers get to watch as the guests “go local” to experience a part of Asia.

Asia Uncut is being broadcasted on Asia's largest regional network, Star World, and reaching the network’s 300 million viewers. It hosts everybody and anybody coming through or living in Asia – celebrities, important business people, politicians, and people with great talents, personalities, or stories of any sort. Asia Uncut offers the television exposure that visiting VIP’s to Asia have always wanted, but that was never previously available. Asia Uncut is the first one-shot mainstream avenue to reach the majority of English speaking people in Asia on an entertainment network. And with a billion people from China and India alone learning English as their second language, this is a BIG market!

Their pilot show featured James Blunt along with local guests was received with rave reviews by the networks who viewed it. The show began tapings in October, 2008 with guests including Maggie Q, Kareem Abdul Jabar, Kareena Lam, and Motley Crue. Many more and exciting guests to come!

GMA-7’s Line-Up of New Shows for 2nd Quarter of 2009

A social-relevant documentary, a hilarious game show, the comeback of the top-rating reality program, a romantic comedy series, a boxing match and a reality talent competition are among GMA-7’s interesting line-up of new shows this second quarter of 2009.

World View Presents: Think Positive! - A special documentary about HIV and AIDS in the Philippines with Vicky Morales as host airs on April 12, Sunday at 10:30 P.M.

Hole in the Wall - The Philippine version of a popular Japanese game show to be hosted by the funny tandem of Ogie Alcasid and Michael V. in their Yaya and Angelina character. The fun begins on April 20, 2009.

The Power of 10 - The Philippine version of the US game show about surveys airs every Saturday nights after Kap’s Amazing Stories beginning May 10, 2009.

Are You the Next Big Star? - GMA’s newest reality talent competition to be hosted by Regine Velasquez. Airs every Saturday after Pinoy Records starting May 16, 2009.

Survivor Philippines - The Philippine version of the very first reality competition on tv is now on its 2nd season. Coming soon in the Telebabad block of GMA.

Adik Sa ‘Yo - Also coming soon in Telebabad is a romantic dramedy series topbilled by Jolina Magdangal, Marvin Agustin and Dennis Trillo.

Summer Sarap - A GMA News and Public Affairs Special on May 3, Sunday at 10:30 p.m.

Will Gladys be cruel to Judy Ann again

The romcom (for romance comedy) “George & Cecil” brings back the unbeatable tandem of Judy Ann Santos and Gladys Reyes now with respective love life in Ryan Agoncillo and Christopher Roxas.

The Judy Ann and Gladys tandem started in “Mara Clara,” looking for diary which took them five years to know was only on the top of the television set. Don’t expect such “fantastic” plot in “George & Cecil” as its fast running and has a believable plot to be delivered by writer-director Joey Reyes.

Martin Nievera Chosen to Sing Philippine National Anthem at Pacquiao-Hatton Fight

Martin Nievera will become the first male singer to sing the Philippine National Anthem in Manny Pacquiao’s fights.

Pambansang Kamao Manny Pacquiao announced in an interview with GMA News that he has chosen the Concert King to sing the Philippine National Anthem in his fight against England’s Ricky Hatton on May 2 (May 3, Philippine time) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Earlier reports are anticipating pinay international singing sensation Charice to sing “Lupang Hinirang” in the upcoming bout with Hatton but Pacman already announced his chosen one.

Aside from Charice, Tony award-winning Broadway actress Lea Salonga also expressed her willingness to sing the Philippine National Anthem.

The elite group of artists who previously sang in Pacman’s bouts were Karylle, Kyla, Geneva Cruz, Jasmine Villegas, Ciara Sotto, Nicole Judalena and Regine Velasquez. This is going to be the first time that we will hear a male voice singing our national song in Las Vegas’ boxing ring.

AGB Mega Manila TV Ratings (April 2-6): TV coverage of Eraserheads reunion concert also a hit

Sunday, April 5, literally became a red-letter day for ABS-CBN as it took the lead in both the daytime and primetime race. The musical-variety show ASAP '09 topped the daytime race with 16.4 percent, while Sharon Cuneta's self-titled musical talk show ranked first in the primetime race with 21.9 percent.

However, it was business as usual for GMA-7 as it continued to dominate the ratings game the rest of the week.

Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin? and Totoy Bato maintained their lead in the weekday daytime and primetime race, respectively.

Eat Bulaga! and Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho were the topraters last Saturday, April 4.

It's also interesting to note that the TV coverage of the reunion concert of Eraserheads, dubbed as The Final Set, managed to grab the third spot (in a tie with Rated K) with 21.1 percent, behind second-placer Ful Haus. The concert was shown in GMA-7 last Sunday.

TV5 is not making its presence felt especially now that some of its programs are beating the shows of both ABS-CBN and GMA-7 in a number of timeslots. Talentadong Pinoy and Spongebob Squarepants once again entered the Top 10 list last Saturday.

Here are the comparative TV ratings of ABS-CBN, TV5, and GMA-7 programs from April 2 to 6, based on the overnight ratings of AGB Nielsen Philippines among Mega Manila households:

Nude pictures ni Jennylyn Mercado ipa-publish

Malapit nang matapos ang coffee table book ni Jennylyn Mercado na Reborn and in fact, kasalukuyan na itong pini-print. Naka-schedule na ang launching nito sa May 9 as part of her b-day celebration and coinciding with Mother’s Day na rin.

Anyway, aside from the CTB, pinaghahandaan din ni Jennylyn ngayon ang kanyang birthday concert na gaganapin sa Music Museum on May 14 and 16 titled “I Am Woman”.

At the same time ay comeback concert na rin ito ni Jen dahil first major show niya ito after giving birth.

Guests sa nasabing show sina Christian Bautista, Richard Poon, Janno Gibbs, Ogie Alcazid and Mark Herras.

Sa mga gustong mag-avail ng tickets, go na lang kayo sa National Bookstore branches or call Ticketworld at 8199999.
