‘Tarot’ Grossed P18 Million in Mega Manila in its 3-Week Run

Here is the screencap from Box Office Mojo site (click to enlarge):

After speculations and guessing games, the American website boxofficemojo.com was able to give an idea on how the Regal Films horror movie “Tarot” fared at the box office.

In the September 9-13, 2009 report of Box Office Mojo, Eugene Domingo’s “Kimmy Dora” is soaring at no. 1 with a two-week gross of P50.58 million besting debuting Hollywood movies such as The Grudge 3 (#3), Gamer (#5), I Love You Beth Cooper (#6) and Management (#8).

The Marian Rivera and Dennis Trillo starrer is running in its 3rd week that time and it placed 16th in the list of 22 movies. Its reported total in Mega Manila is US$375,221.00 or P18,138.183.14. If we are to include provincial theaters, the film could have grossed an approximate P23 million nationwide which is still a box office flop.

Kaye Abad hopes to work with John Lloyd Cruz again

Kaye Abad is happy to have found a new ka-love team in the person of singer-turned-actor Guji Lorenzana. After first pairing up in one chapter of Precious Hearts Romances presents Bud Brothers, the two now top-bill the new PHR offering entitled Somewhere in my Heart. In an interview with ABS-CBN.com, Kaye said that the last time she had a successful love team was with John Lloyd Cruz in the weekly drama Tabing Ilog. Now that John Lloyd is one of the most acclaimed young actors in the industry, Kaye is very happy that her former leading man has achieved critical and commercial acclaim. “Proud ako kasi dream niya talaga na maging isang magaling na aktor. Natutuwa ako kasi ang layo na ng narating niya. Mula sa Tabing Ilog, ngayon nasa kanya na lahat ng pinapangarap niya. Noon pa lang alam ko na na may plano na talaga para sa kanya kasi he’s very talented.”

When Tabing Ilog wrapped up in 2003, Kaye and John Lloyd each had their solo careers. The 27-year-old actress confessed to ABS-CBN.com that she has long been requesting management for a reunion with Lloydy. “Sobrang gusto ko na siya makatrabaho ulit. Ang totoo matagal ko nang nire-request sa manager namin, pareho kasi kami ng manager sa Star Magic, na magka-project kami together. Pero masyado pang busy si John Lloyd ngayon. Madami pa siyang naka-line up na trabaho. Maganda sana kung magkaroon kami ng bonggang reunion project.”

Kaye clarified that she never once felt envious of John Lloyd’s stardom. She said that it was her decision to take a break from acting and looking at her career now, Kaye said that she is happy with what she has achieved. “Ginusto ko rin na sumikat nang todo pero minsan kasi naiisip ko okay naman ako sa narating ko ngayon. Ayoko rin kasi ng sobrang busy. Gusto ko kahit papaano may time pa rin ako para sa sarili ko, being with my family and friends. Kaya nga ako tumigil for a while sa pag-arte kasi gusto ko magpahinga muna. Na-miss ko rin kasi ‘yung buhay na wala akong iniisip na may trabaho ako bukas. Dream ko rin na maging superstar, pero sa totoo lang happy naman ako sa kung ano ang meron ako ngayon. May tiwala naman ako kay God na ibibigay Niya sa akin kung ano ‘yung deserve ko.”

Since going their separate ways after Tabing Ilog, Kaye and John Lloyd seldom saw each other. But when the two met up once for a photo shoot, John Lloyd teased Kaye about her rumored romance with her new leading man Guji. “One time kasi sa isang pictorial, ‘yung ibang kasama namin tinutukso ako about Guji. Tinanong ni Lloydy kung sino ‘yun, nung nalaman niya na si Guji nga, inasar niya ako na nagbago na raw ang type ko sa mga lalaki, ‘yung mga umi-English na. Akala niya boyfriend ko na si Guji, sabi ko naman hindi kaya.”

GMA confirmed the reports that Sunshine Dizon will be pulled-out from her afternoon soap opera “Sine Novela Presents: Tinik sa Dibdib”. Here is the network’s official statement:

The housemates donate goods for Typhoon Ondoy's victims

Big Brother finds a way to let his housemates extend a helping hand to Typhoon Ondoy’s victims. As a special task, he requests all the housemates to bring in something from their belongings which they can willingly donate to those poor souls outside the Big Brother house.

Most of the housemates brought in their most valuable clothes. According to most of them, since they don’t have enough to give in, they might as well deal with the sacrifice of letting go of their most precious clothing to show how much they truly care about those who lost everything they possess.

Among all the housemates, Delio seems to be the most generous giver; and included in his stock is one of his truly priceless shirt; the one that originally belongs to his late father. In line with his actions, he claims that there are more people out there who are in need of the said goods, so he is willing to settle with what he had left in his closet as of the moment. And upon hearing the lad’s explanation, Princess couldn’t help but burst into tears.

While others give out clothing, Jason decides on shelling out monetary help instead. Since he claims that most of the wardrobe he had brought are merely borrowed, he is in no position to give them away. Fortunately, he has found 200 pesos in his pocket that he could selflessly offer.

On the other hand, JP gets held up by a rather tight situation. Unfortunately, it seems that his vacation leave at work was not approved. He is left with only two choices: it is either he stays inside the house with his twin, or he leaves to attend to his familial duties as a provider. Sadly, the latter choice seems to possess the greatest weight for him, so he ends up telling Big Brother that he will be opting for a voluntary exit.

On Pinoy Big Brother primetime: Double Trouble

After the October 4 magical reveal of Pinoy Big Brother Double Up, the housemates were evenly divided into PBB’s two new houses. In House A were Tom Mott, Delio Dimaculangan, Jason Francisco, Paul Jake Castillo, and the only girl Princess Manzon. The other girls—Carol Batay, Mariel Sorino, Melisa Cantiveros, Yhel Punzalan, and Yuri Okawa—were assigned to House B.

Each group remained unaware of the other’s existence and about Kuya’s “double” house. The secret was only revealed by Big Brother to the two sets of twins, JP and JM Lagunday and Toffi and Kenny Santos. He also presented the twins with the tough challenge of keeping the secret and of swapping with their twin at Kuya’s command without the housemates noticing. Succeeding in the task would mean immunity from the first nomination, while failing would lead to a force eviction.

JP and Toffi first went to House A and acted as if they didn’t know each other to protect their secret. JM and Kenny went to House B where they were surprised to discover that they were the only guys in the room. JM immediately revealed that he’s already was with a kid, so Kenny was the only guy available to date just in case.

After all of the housemates in the two houses had eaten dinner, Big Brother called the two twins to the confession room and ordered a switch. Since Kenny had a bruised left toenail, he and his twin brother applied red nail polish on each of their left toenails so the other housemates won’t suspect anything.

JM and Kenny brought the housemates’ luggage to House A and since they were too busy taking care of the bags the swap was seamless for them. Unfortunately in House B, the girls easily became suspicious when they felt that something was different upon seeing JP and Toffi. Melisa laughed because she noticed that the faces of the two guys changed a bit. JP and Toffi tried to act natural and unaffected, but their housemates’ suspicions grew stronger. The girls thought that maybe Kuya brought in twins as part of the Double Up season.

Is this the end of the twins’ task? Find out tomorrow on PBB Double Up Primetime right after Dahil May Isang Ikaw. Also be sure to log on to http://pinoybigbrother.multiply.com for the freshest updates from inside Kuya’s house.

Direk Lauren Dyogi says Pinoy Big Brother is not an ‘artista’ search

Pinoy Big Brother is up for another season with its Double Up edition set to begin on October 4. But while former housemates like Sam Milby, Jayson Gainza, Kim Chiu, and Gerald Anderson have made it big in showbiz, Business Unit Head Laurenti Dyogi stressed that PBB is not an “artista” search. “Hindi naman talaga artista search ang PBB. Nagkakataon lang na talagang nakakahanap kami ng mga pumapasok sa bahay ni Kuya na magiging sikat paglabas. Noong season one si Sam at si Jayson ang pinakasikat. Si Zanjoe (Marudo) kahit hindi nanalo napakasikat ngayon. Si Ejay (Falcon) sikat ngayon dahil sa Katorse. I think ang pinakasumikat talaga e sina Sam, Kim, at Gerald.”

Direk Lauren confessed that getting “good-looking” people as housemates is a major consideration for the show. “Plano talaga namin na may ilang papasok sa bahay na may hitsura, whether maging artista sila later on or not. It’s a requirement not just of ABS-CBN but also of Endemol (the Dutch company that owns the Big Brother franchise) in all the Big Brothers around the world na merong may hitsura sa loob ng bahay. Dahil nagpapasok kami ng mga may hitsura kadalasan they would make it in showbiz.”

But Direk Lauren clarified that looks are not the only criteria of the screening process for PBB. He said that what matters most is if a person has an interesting story to tell on television. “Lagi namang based on personality ang pagpili namin. Kukuha ka ng maganda, pogi, kalog, pasaway, dapat iba-iba. Dapat maging maganda ‘yung mix nila kasi hindi naman pwedeng lahat maingay o tahimik. Talent is just a plus pero hindi naman talaga kailangan. Tinitingnan talaga namin ‘yung mga nago-audition kung magiging interesting silang panoorin sa TV.”

The head honcho of PBB also talked about the restructuring of the PBB house interior. A new design was adapted which explains why this season is called Double Up. “The lot is just the same, ‘yung configuration lang ang binabago every season. Nabago ‘yung hitsura ng interior because merong pakulo this season. Siyempre may confession room pa rin, dining, kitchen, bedrooms. The swimming pool will still be there. Medyo mahal ang paggawa ng bahay ngayon. Para kang nagpatayo ng bahay sa Alabang. Ganun kamahal.”

On the night of October 4, housemates from as far as Europe, North America, and neighboring countries in Asia will soon be introduced to audiences. In a VTR shown during the PBB press con, there was a sneak peek of the incoming housemates, like the Romantic Stud ng Samar, Sassy Vamp ng Cebu, Boy Astig ng Mindoro, Inday Kengkay ng Gen San, Richie Rich ng Cebu, Simpatikong Kusinero ng Batangas, Conservative Pharmacist ng Tondo, Struggling Mom ng Davao, and the Young Widow ng Pampanga. Direk Lauren said that they won’t be spending less than 100 days inside the house and they might even have to celebrate Christmas and New Year with Kuya.
