Nora Aunor is Nominated for 10 Best Asian Actresses of the Decade

The country’s Superstar, Nora Aunor, is shortlisted for the 10 Best Asian Actresses of the Decade category of the 2010 Green Globe Film Awards.

Ate Guy is vying for a slot in the Top 10 against a number of actresses across Asia, mostly from China, Japan and Korea. From the shortlisted nominees in 37 categories, she was the only Filipino who made it to the list.

Aside from the 10 Best Asian Actresses of the Decade, there are other award categories in the 2010 Green Globe that celebrate the Asian entertainment scene like Best Asian Film of the Decade, Asian Cultural Ambassador of the Decade, Best International Entertainer from Asia, Best International Actor/Actress from Asia, Best International Film from Asia, etc.

The above-mentioned categories will be voted by the public via an online poll at www.movie-voters.com and it will run until March 5, 2010.

Considered as one of Hollywood’s largest film award programs, the Green Globe Film Awards will culminate on March 23, 2010. 100 Viewers’ Choice Awards being selected by film lovers, critics and movie viewers from around the world will be announced.

You can help Nora Aunor be included in the 10 Best Asian Actresses of the Decade by voting for her and up to 9 other nominees at www.movie-voters.com.

And here’s more. The shortlisted names were not final nominees as the site visitor can still input one name under the choice “Other” if your favorite is not in the list. So we can still nominate other “kababayan” in the Asian Film category.

Here are my suggestions…

ABS-CBN overtakes GMA in ratings race, research shows

MANILA, Philippines--Lopez-led broadcast network ABS-CBN widened its nationwide lead over its closest rival, GMA, at the end of last year.

In a statement, ABS-CBN said it now has a nationwide audience share of 48 percent as of December 2009, or higher than the 44 percent it had in February the same year, based on data from global research specialist Taylor Nelson Sofres.

In contrast, its rival’s share was down to 31 percent from 37 percent in the same period.

“This growth from a 7-percentage-point lead to a 17-percentage-point lead is attributed to the strong focus of the network on its core viewers, its commitment to production quality, improvements in TV reception, its great storytelling and huge star cast with its popular television series,” said ABS-CBN.

The network also noted a significant shift in the vital Mega Manila audience share. ABS-CBN cut down its competitor’s lead from 9 percentage points in February (ABS-CBN’s 34 percent compared to GMA’s 43 percent) to 2 percentage points in December (ABS-CBN with 37 percent and GMA with 39 percent).

Metro Manila, which comprises the majority of Mega Manila, drove the Mega Manila audience shift, from ABS-CBN’s 37 percent to the competition’s 40 percent share in February to ABS-CBN leading Metro Manila with 39 percent versus GMA’s 35 percent by year’s end.

“Throughout the country, ABS-CBN is still the undisputed national leader with its overall 2009 performance of 45 percent audience share versus GMA’s 34 percent,” the network said.

“It also exhibited a runaway leadership in Luzon areas outside Mega Manila with 49 percent audience share against competition’s 32 percent; in Visayas with 62 percent versus 22 percent, and in Mindanao, where it trashed its competitor, 70 percent to 15 percent,” ABS-CBN said.

Angel Locsin chooses Aga Muhlach over John Lloyd Cruz for her dream project

Angel Locsin chose a movie with Aga Muhlach over a proposed teleserye with John Lloyd Cruz when she was asked which of the two was her dream project. The actress revealed that they had just been presented with the story for the movie.

As if anticipating the difficulties she would have to face in making the movie, Angel said that she already approached Direk Olive to say sorry this early. “Yumakap na ako kay Inang, sabi ko, ‘Inang ngayon pa lang magso-sorry na ako sa ‘yo kasi alam kong sisigawan mo ako.’ Sabi ni Inang, ‘Huwag kang mag-alala sisigawan talaga kita,’” she said and laughed. Angel added that they are already fixing their schedules so they can finally start shooting the movie.

Angel also said that there have been talks already about the possible story of the teleserye that she and John Lloyd will do. When pushed to describe what kind of role she will play, Angel said, “I think kung ano ‘yung gusto rin ngtao for me and ‘yun din ang gusto ko talaga.” However, there is no word yet as to when her supposed teleserye with Lloydy will start production.

The actress said that she is staying optimistic that her career would only get better. Angel said that only good things have happened to her career over the past few years, having done the critically-acclaimed TV series Lobo, which gave her an International Emmy nomination for Best Actress and a much-talked episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya which netted her a Best Actress award. “Oo nga naman wala namang hindi maganda ang binigay. ‘Yung projects na gusto ko ibinigay naman sa akin. Inaantay ko lang talaga and I’m very thankful sa mga projects na binigay ng ABS-CBN. Napansin ako sa mga ginagawa ko kasi dati hindi naman ako nano-nominate dati.”

Aside from her slated movie with Aga and teleserye with Lloydy, Angel is also working on the fantaserye Kokey @ Ako and on abother episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya.

"SOP Fully Charged" To Get the Axe Soon!

GMA-7's newly formatted Sunday noontime variety show "SOP Fully Charged" will be off the air on February 28, 2010, according to a very reliable source.

SOP Fully Charged which started as "Sobrang Okay, Pare", then re-titled to "SOP Rules" and relaunched late last year to its current name had undergone a series of reformat so as to boost high ratings but it still failed to gain more viewership and disappoints GMA Executives. Even some of its hosts vocally showed their dismay. Regine Velasques, the show's main frontliner has been absent from the show for a couple of weeks since its relaunched.

This will surely come as a surprise to GMA-7 talents who are part of the SOP Fully Charged since the decision to axe the show is yet to divulge by GMA management.

ABS-CBN’s Statement Regarding Dolphy’s Transfer to TV5

Mr. Bong Osorio, ABS-CBN’s head of Corporate Communications issued a short statement regarding Dolphy’s transfer to TV5.

Starmometer posted an article last January 26 regarding the alleged transfer of Dolphy to the Ka-Shake network. The rumor was confirmed last February 1 via Nitz Miralles‘ column in Pilipino Star Ngayon followed by a report by Ricky Lo.

The King of Comedy was an exclusive star of ABS-CBN for almost 2 decades. He said he made the decision after meeting with TV5 executives last week. The Ka-Shake station promised to give him a sitcom with some of his children.

In an interview by the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Dolphy explains his decision to transfer:

“I think ABS-CBN felt bad about it. But I just wanted to work. I’ve been waiting for a job for the past 3 years,” he said. “I love ABS-CBN, but I need to move on. I’ll be working with TV5 in the meantime, but anytime ABS-CBN needs me, I’ll just be here.”

ABS-CBN, on the other hand, via their head of Corporate Communications Bong Osorio issued a short statement regarding the transfer:

The 81-year-old comedian assured ABS-CBN that he will remain open if ever the kapamilya network needs him. His contract with TV5 is non-exclusive, therefore, he can come back to ABS-CBN in the future.

Aside from Dolphy, the Diamond Star Maricel Soriano also signed a non-exclusive contract with TV5. The Queen of Philippine Movies Susan Roces and the Optimum Star Claudine Barretto, on the other hand, transferred to GMA-7.
