Gerald Santos, not moving to ABS-CBN

The news about Gerald Santos transferring to ABS-CBN was a BIG LIE.

Last March, it was reported on different web sites that Gerald Santos will be joining ASAP XV on ABS-CBN. But the month of April has passed, no Gerald Santos was launched in the show.

Last Sunday, Gerald was seen on GMA's Party Pilipinas and that belied reports of his supposed transfer.

On Unang Hirit this morning, it has been reported that Gerald Santos will now be a regular performer on Party Pilipinas. And that means, he's not gonna transfer to the Kapamilya network.

Gerald Anderson relates how his goals prodded him to visit the gym

It’s been four years since we last saw Gerald Anderson inside the Pinoy Big Brother house. Who would have thought that his exposure on the show would catapult his career to super stardom?

Now at 21 years old, Gerald has successfully transformed himself from teenage heartthrob to one of the country’s most bankable leading men.

“Ang iniisip ko kasi sinasabi ng iba, puro teenybopper [ginagawa ko] pero ang tanda ko na para maging ganun. Sabi ko sa sarili ko hindi na ‘ata bagay. So ang mga role na ginawa ko starting sa Tayong Dalawa, mature na, kaya sinabay ko na mag-workout,” shares Gerald, who started to put some muscle to his gangly physique last year.

His Men’s Health debut on the magazine’s 5th anniversary issue comes at a perfect time. Gerald is at the prime of his career and he’s in the best shape he’s ever been. For his Men’s Health shoot, Gerald bravely hung on rails high above the ground and hopped on walls without a harness.

Surprisingly, unlike other showbiz hunks, Gerald reveals that he dreads going to the gym, “Going to the gym, hindi talaga ako nag-e-enjoy at all, kahit konti.” But whenever he feels lazy to work out, he thinks of his goals. “Merong mga araw na tatamarin ka, na ayaw mo bumangon. Yung gusto mo lang magpahinga pero kailangan mo mag-gym, ang hirap nun. Iniisip ko na lang na kailangan.”

Now that his hard work has paid off and it seems like everything is going very well for the young actor, how does he handle the pressure that comes with the job?

“It helps. I keep it in mind para mas masipag ako sa gagawin ko. Mas focused, mas seryoso,” he says. “Kung walang pressure sa gagawin mo, parang wala lang din ang mabibigay mo. Kung malaking pressure sa ‘yo, gagawin mo lahat para maghanda sa performance mo.”

Find out more about how Gerald Anderson keeps fit in the May issue of Men’s Health Magazine Philippines, now available in newsstands, bookstores, and supermarkets nationwide.

Ogie Alcasid vehemently denies allegation that Regine Velasquez refused to rehearse for Party Pilipinas

"Ayaw nilang mag-rehearse. Paano mapapaganda yung show? Hindi alam ng tao, sa director bumabagsak pag pangit yung show. Yun ang diperensiya talaga," saad ni Direk Louie.

May nag-post kasi sa social networking site na Twitter insinuating that Direk Louie is referring to Regine.

Ayon kay Ogie, "...Regine would not reach her career status right now if it weren't for her unparalleled professionalism. It is unfair to spread the rumor that she is not cooperating."

Dagdag ni Ogie, "Only the staff and the artists were there in cebu and no one else knows what really happened there. To besmirch regine's reputation is outright unfair."

UNAWARE OF THE REAL SCORE.

"I am not aware of what the real score is re direk louie's resignation. Please be merciful. The demise of our shows was not caused by just one person. We are a team and forever will be.

"Let us just pray that all these will come to pass. That in the end, things were done for the good of the show," mensahe ni Ogie.

OGIE APOLOGIZES.

"My apologies to those who got disappointed with today's show. Regine and I had nothing to do with the planning as we went on vacation for her birthday. I was not there because I have been booked a long time ago to do after pp. Kaya lang, nalipat sa cebu ang show at di ako aabot.

"Please consider that a remote show is a difficult undertaking. The staff tried their best. I will still talk to them re your complaints," paliwanag ni Ogie.

The question remains, will Papai be able to beat ASAP? That remains to be seeen. Bakit kamu? So expect nyo parin that Louie will have his retribution soon.

Ogie Alcasid answers rumors regarding Regine Velasquez' attitude on Party Pilipinas

I just read the entry of boy gossip maliciously involving regine's name in direk louie's statement insisting that she is the one that direk is referring to sa mga hindi nagrerehearse. Regine would not reach her career status right now if it weren't for her unparalleled professionalism. It is unfair to spread the rumor that she is not cooperating. Boy gossip, I humbly ask you to please retract your statement about this issue. Only the staff and the artists were there in cebu and no one else knows what really happened there. To besmirch regine's reputation is outright unfair.

Be “kid-literate” with GMA Pinoy TV’s ”Wachamakulit”

GMA Pinoy TV continuously innovates as it brings “Wachamakulit,” an original game show that will test adults’ ability to comprehend what kids mean while experiencing the spontaneous hilarity and riot in between.

Hosting a game show for the first time in her career is Eugene Domingo. Join her as she cheers and sometimes jeers three adult contestants who will compete in three rounds of guessing games.

Speed is king in all the rounds as contestants must be quick in identifying a mystery word to gain the most points.

For the first round called “Wach Dat?,” the contestants need to identify a maximum of four concepts or objects. Helping them are a bunch of “bibo” kids, ages 5 to 10, who will start off by giving vague clues and then proceed to the object’s specifics as the guessing game lengthens.

It pays to know a lot of people in the second round called “Tao Po!,” wherein a child star impersonates or brings physical clues about a mystery person. In this round, contestants could guess a maximum of four people, which may be names of professions or celebrities.

Musical knowledge will be tested in the third round tagged as “Kantaranta.” Contestants must listen to a kiddie band who will play three songs, each for a maximum of 15 seconds. They must correctly name the song titles. Prepare to get awestruck as the kiddie band performs the most unexpected songs, including those way past their generation!

The contestant with the highest combined score will play in the jackpot round labeled “Feeling Clues,” where three things that fall under the same category must be named in 30 seconds. This round is extra-wild because Eugene Domingo herself will participate by joining forces with the kids in charades or paint-me-a-picture game.

Laugh while testing your kid comprehension skills with GMA Pinoy TV’s “Wachamakulit” beginning May 1 (ASPAC) or May 2 (US PDT). Call your preferred pay TV operator now to subscribe.

AGB MEGA MANILA RATINGS

March 28 : Party Pilipinas (GMA-7) 15.5% vs. ASAP XV (ABS-CBN) 17.4%
April 04   : Party Pilipinas (GMA-7) 12.4% vs. ASAP XV (ABS-CBN) 12.4%
April 11   : Party Pilipinas (GMA-7) 13.0% vs. ASAP XV (ABS-CBN) 13.7%
April 18   : Party Pilipinas (GMA-7) 11.2% vs. ASAP XV (ABS-CBN) 12.8%
April 25   : Party Pilipinas (GMA-7) 10.4% vs. ASAP XV (ABS-CBN) 15.3%

Anong masasabi ninyo tungkol dito?

Allan K delivers live stand-up comedy with Eugene Domingo in Comedy Bar

Known as "Pambansang Ilong ng Pilipinas," Allan K has been a regular co-host of the longest-running noontime show Eat Bulaga! since 1995. Aside from being a staple of the popular noontime show, the comedian also busies himself with Klownz, his very own comedy bar.

Now that GMA-7 has tapped him to star in Comedy Bar, a live comedy series with fellow comedian Eugene Domingo and the Brazilian-Japanese hunk Fabio Ide, Allan K's natural sense of humor will be showcased not only to the people who frequent Klownz but to the general viewing public as well.

When asked what makes Comedy Bar different from other comedy shows, Allan K explained: "Kumbaga, ito yung pinaka-impromptu na comedy. Yung iba kasi, di ba, isinusulat? Ang iba may storyline na sinusunod. Yung mga comedy shows, may take two, may take three. Ito kasi, nakadepende siya sa audience, nakadepende siya sa mga nangyayari. Stand-up comedy. 'Saka live audience kami."

He added, "Ang comedy bar ay walang theme. Kung ano lang ang meron. Ganun siya, e. Kasi nakadepende 'yan sa bilis ng mga komedyante. Kung anong itstura ng audience, kung anong ipapasok na usapan. Dapat mabilis kang sumakay, mabilis kang magpahaba ng kuwento in a comic manner."

However, it wasn't easy for him to be a stand-up comedian at first.

"Hirap ako kasi I started as a serious singer talaga," he said. "Tapos napunta nga ako sa sing-along kasi wala akong choice kundi maging sing-along master. E, hindi ka naman puwedeng kumanta buong gabi so you have to tell stories in between. Mag-spiels ka. E, hindi pala puwede ang spiels sa mga malulungkot. Dapat may comedy, may punch line.

"Napansin ko nagiging effective ako kapag nagkukwento ako ng masaya. Mas nag-e-enjoy ang tao at mas nakikinig at nagpapalakpakan pa kapag natuwa. So, dinevelop ko yung comedy kasi noon ko lang din nalaman na puwede pala akong mag-stand up."

WORKING WITH UGE & FABIO. How is it like to work with Eugene Domingo?

"Si Eugene, hindi siya mahirap na isalang sa Comedy Bar kasi funny siya," Allan K replied. "Just being herself, she's a funny person. Nakakatawa siya. Yung normal na pag-uuusap n'yo, matatawa ka sa kanya talaga.

"Nung trade launch na pinalabas sa Party Pilipinas, never kami nag-rehearse. Hindi namin pinag-usapan kung anong gagawin. 'Anong gagawin namin?' Pagtawag sa amin wala, wala nang usap. 'Gawin n'yo na 'yan.' Ganun din si Uge.

"At ayaw namin ng script," he continued. "Gusto namin bullet points lang. Di ba, pag totoong show, 'Ang susunod nating blah blah...' ganyan. Tapos gumagala yung mata. Walang ganun. 'Introduce chu- chu.' Ganun lang."

How about Fabio Ide?

"Si Fabio? A, hindi ka matatawa sa kanya. May mararamdaman kang kaiba!" the comedian said with a hearty laugh.

STAND-UP COMEDY IN RP. With the advent of new stand-up comedians in local television, PEP asked Allan K who he thinks is the best among them.

"Lahat 'yan magagaling, lahat 'yan may kanya-kanyang style. Lahat may kanya-kanyang angking talino.

Turning serious, Allan K talked about the things he wants to achieve while in showbiz. "Gusto kong gumawa ng isang pelikula na markadong-markado. Yung hindi ka makakalimutan."

Pondering his own words, he added, "Kailangan pa ba nating gumawa ng pelikula? Hahaha! Ayoko kasi yung hintayan. Mas pagod ako sa kahihintay, kaysa yung aktwal na trabaho. Kasi talaga ako, gusto ko talaga live."

Comedy Bar begins airing this Saturday, April 25, on GMA-7.

Youth group to TV 'Big 3': hold joint presidential debate

MANILA, Philippines - “These networks should get their act together. It’s time for a big debate.”

Less than a month to Election Day, youth-based organization Youth Vote Philippines is calling for the three major television networks -- ABS-CBN, GMA Network, and TV5 -- to jointly organize a presidential debate forum to further the quality of discourse of the issues.

Niel Lim, Youth Vote Philippines media liaison officer, said in an interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com that a “one-time, big-time debate” would benefit not just the presidential candidates, but also the public as well.

Lim raised the idea after most candidates backed out of ABS-CBN’s “Harapan: The Tandem Presidential Debate” last month, leaving Sen. Richard Gordon and Bayani Fernando (Bagumbayan-VNP) and Bro. Eddie Villanueva and Perfecto Yasay (Bangon Pilipinas) to debate.

Lim agreed with Lakas-KAMPI-CMD presidential candidate, former Defense Sec. Gilberto Teodoro, who said he pulled out of “Harapan” because he was already over-exposed in debates and forums and they were becoming repetitive.

Fairer coverage, discussion

“It’s all the same thing. The problem with our debates is that they are becoming a huge, double-edged sword for the candidates. The debates are disorganized and conducted messily,” Lim said.

“Debates have become purely one-issue sectoral forums, where candidates simply present their platforms and articulate their agenda over and over again. It’s good to be platform-based, but we have to go further than that.”

Lim noted that the overall enthusiasm for presidential debates was one of the highest in recent election years, and started as early as last year. But interest in the debates faded quickly when the audience perceived them to be “more of the same.”

In addition to ABS-CBN’s “Harapan,” GMA 7 has held “Isang Tanong,” while TV5 had “Pagbabago 2010,” their own versions of the presidential debate.

Lim pointed that a single presidential debate would result to better coverage and discussion of the issues, since the television networks would not be dividing the forum for discussion.

“If the debate is scheduled and covered by all major networks and publications, during a similar time slot, say, during primetime (7 p.m. to 9 p.m.) at least it would be a shared risk that would be carried by these stations,” he explained. “I guess that’s part of the media’s duty to the public.”

Sharper arguments, pointed questions

Television networks and publications alike are motivated by corporate interests and competitive instincts, thus limiting coverage to their respective presidential debates, Lim said.

Lim also explained that in a joint-network debate, the way the moderators handled discussion may also contribute to its success or failure.

“Moderators shouldn’t be afraid to ask pointed questions of the candidates. There also must be room for real argumentation among the candidates. The closest thing we had to candidates actually clashing was during “Harapan: The Vice Presidential Debate,” but that’s not really saying much since some candidates resorted to personal attacks,” he said.

He believes that instead of shunning this kind of debate, the presidential candidates will more likely embrace the idea of a debate sponsored by ABS-CBN, GMA 7, and TV5, even if some haven’t been to keen on joining debates in the past.

“The candidates will go for that. They won’t refuse exposure on the Big Three (ABS-CBN, GMA 7, and TV5). If they are able to get at least the two top presidential contenders, Sen. Benigno Aquino III (Liberal Party) and Sen. Manuel Villar, Jr. (Nacionalista Party), then the others may follow.”

Party on 5

PARTY ON 5 will now simply be called P On 5, ito ang noontime program ng TV5 to pilot this Sunday, April 11 with hosts Lucy Torres-Gomez, John Estrada, JD De Vera, Ryan Agoncillo, Alex Gonzaga and Mr. Fu, among others.

Ano ‘yon, hindi pa man nagsisimula ang show, nagpalit na agad ng title? Says Mr. Fu, unang-una, ayaw raw nilang maakusahan na ginagamit ang salitang “party” bilang pangongopya sa Party Pilipinas ng GMA-7, although the program title existed already on the drawing table.

Ikalawa, let the latter “P” means a lot of things, mainly “Pera” dahil alam naman ng istasyon na malaking bentahe ang pamumudmud nito, lots of it, to attract viewers.

Born to Be Wild airs an Earth Day special episode tonight.

Earth Day is being commemorated all over the world. And in the Philippines, there are literally thousands of reasons to celebrate. The country, which has been called a “mega biodiversity” haven, is home to countless plant and animal species that can be found nowhere else on Earth. In celebratin of Earth Day this Thursday, BORN TO BE WILD presents “Biodiversity: An Earth Day Report.”

Doc Ferds and Kiko travel to the heart of the jungle for some surprising discoveries. Little do most people know that the plants that are often taken for granted may in fact hold the cure to some of the deadliest diseases. Doc Ferds joins scientists in their search for new cures.

Still in the country’s forests, BORN TO BE WILD showcases the macro world where even the smallest beings have a role to play in the ecosystem. Humans may often only step on them, but these tiny insects and critters make up a large number of the Philippines’ endemic species, those that can only be found in the territory.

No matter how rich or diverse, the country’s environment still faces many perils. While filming the lives of Dumagat natives at the foot of the Sierra Madre, the team encounters an ongoing forest fire – one that is manmade. How can the forests be saved from threats created by humans?

The second installment of BORN TO BE WILD’s Green Agenda report airs this Thursday after Saksi, only on GMA Network.

GMA retains top television ranking in first quarter

GMA Network Inc. retained its leadership in television ratings in Mega Manila for the first three months of the year.

In a statement, GMA pointed to survey results from TV ratings data supplier AGB Nielsen Philippines showing that GMA edged out its rival with an average audience share of 37.2 percent, 1.3-percentage points higher than competition’s 35.9 percent.

Based on AGB Nielsen’s 2010 TV household population projections, Mega Manila TV households now comprise 55 percent of the National Urban Philippines TV population and are generated from a bigger panel of 800 TV households.

During the period, GMA had 15 entries in the list of overall top 30 programs. GMA’s adaptation of Mars Ravelo’s Darna took the top notch in the list with an average household rating of 32.2 points.

Six GMA-made programs made it to the top 10 list. Apart from Darna, other primetime programs that made it to the list are the fantasy series The Last Prince, Panday Kids, Full House, newscast 24 Oras, and Pepito Manaloto.

Meanwhile, including TV specials during the quarter, the latest bout of boxing’s pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao against Joshua Clottey beat all TV programs with 37.9 rating points. The main event registered a household rating of 49.7 percent and an audience share of 81.3 percent in Mega Manila.

GMA Network also kept its lead in another key area—urban north/central Luzon—where it led competition by 2.6 points in average channel ratings during the first quarter.

Urban North/Central Luzon accounts for 21 percent of the National Urban Philippines TV population.

GMA Network chairman and president Felipe L. Gozon said the network will be able to increase the gap in TV ratings in Mega Manila and other key markets in the coming months. “We are confident that we will be able to once again widen the lead in TV ratings as we are set to launch new shows that will surely excite our viewers,” Gozon said.

Among the programs set to launch on GMA Network in the coming months include Survivor Philippines: Celebrity Edition.

AGB Nielsen supplies TV ratings data to 21 companies in the country. GMA Network and two other media companies (ABS-CBN not included), plus 12 major advertising agencies and four regional clients subscribe to AGB Nielsen.

Tuesday, April 20, becomes extra special with the showdown of the Salo-Salo Together Family composed of Liezl Martinez, Giselle Sanchez, Joy Ortega and Smokey Manaloto against the Halo-Halo Together Family of Chariz Solomon, Say Alonzo, Tessbomb and Antonio Aquitania.

‘Daisy Siete’ gets axe; ‘Adam or Eve’ closes show

As buzzed for weeks now, “Daisy Siete,” the afternoon show of Sex Bomb Dancers, will soon fold up. The GMA drama series is airing its last season episode “Adam or Eve” starring Rochelle Pangilinan, which ends on July 2.

The confirmation was made by Sex Bomb Dancers manager and producer Joy Cancio. A new soap to be produced by Viva will reportedly replace “Daisy Siete.”

Joy is said to be heartbroken over network’s decision to discontinue airing the popular afternoon soap which has been a consistent top-rater throughout its 26 seasons on air.

Among the highlights of the “Adam or Eve” episode is the kissing scene between Rochelle Pangilinan and Weng Ibarra. This is the first time two Sex Bomb Dancers have agreed to do a delicate scene. More, Rochelle plays a man in the scene as necessitated by the situation she has got embroiled in.

During a recent “Daisy Siete” press conference, Cancio belied rumors that Rochelle, and not her, was doing the negotiation with GMA. Cancio added that her fondest desire for the group is to elevate their show to primetime.

Cancio likewise denied reports that she’s negotiating with TV5. “Ni wala pong offer ang TV5 sa amin,” she said.

Following confirmation that “Daisy Siete” is on its way out, rumors resurfaced that she’s bringing the show to the Kapatid network.

Incidentally, Rochelle and her rumored boyfriend Arthur Solinap were spotted during the weekend strolling at Promenade in Greenhills. The two, who have belied romantic liaison between them, were seen holding hands while walking.

According to a source, Rochelle and Arthur watched a movie at the mall complex.

JOLINA’S PARTY PILIPINAS PRODUCTION NUMBER DRAWS RAVE REVIEWS

There was an outpouring of emails and text messages in praise of the production number done by entertainment icon JOLINA MAGDANGAL during the telecast of GMA7’s PARTY PILIPINAS at the Araneta Coliseum. Sporting a more subdued fashion statement, her song started in a high-end couch and danced her way to the end of the well-applauded number. In a text message, no less than Director Louie Ignacio said “Yey!!!-Dami nag-email, sobra and specified favorite and the best yung prod number mo. I’m happy. Bongga ka talaga!”.

Jolina was, of course, flattered and happy that both the audience and the televiewers appreciated her number. “Pinag-handaan kasi namin talaga ito in terms of choice of song, costume and coreography.” Jolina quipped. “Happy naman ako at maraming natuwa.” she added. Aside from out of town shows, she is busy taping for PANDAY KIDS. Her role as OLA is becoming more demanding as she will link-up with the kids and join them in battling their nemesis. Asked if she will have a romantic scene with Marvin (as Lizardo), she quickly replied “ay wala po! This time, magkaaway po kami.” “Kay Akihiro po ako nagkaroon kilig factor dito” she said with an impish smile. She and Marvin are still co-hosting the extended season of DEAR FRIEND aired every Sunday.

Kids get smarter, brighter with GMA Pinoy TV’s Sunnyville

Welcome GMA Pinoy TV’s newest educational program -- “Sunnyville!” The show is set in Brgy. Sunnyville, the new home that awaits playful 5-year-old Buboy (Jermaine Ulgasan), and his elder sister Anna (Patricia Gayod, Star Awards winner for Best New Female Personality).

Buboy, Anna and their Tita Auring (Joy Viado) are excited about their new home at Sunnyville. They get a warm welcome from the neighbors from the tenement, and they meet new friends, too. But the sunniest and happiest surprises await them: the resident repairwoman and everyone’s big sister Ate Belle (Love Añover) and the Bahay Butingting are also in Sunnyville!

Completing the picture is their pet and friend, Ming Ming, whom Anna and Buboy immediately look for in Ate Belle’s stockroom. And instead of finding their furry friend, the stockroom takes them to a new and mysterious world where giant plants and flowers abound. Where are Anna and Buboy? Will this new world bring better and brighter adventures for them?

“It’s like a classroom on TV, set in a sunny neighborhood,” said host Love Añover.

She adds each thematic episode is guided by curriculum-based topics. The show aims to help teach basic pre-school subjects like Language and Reading, Science, Social Studies, Math, Health and Hygiene, and General Knowledge.

“The show will also impart Filipino values, character education, and will seek to address the issue of “OFW-ism” by helping main characters Anna and Buboy, whose mother works as a domestic helper in Hong Kong, cope with having an OFW parent.”

Sunnyville airs April 18 only on GMA Pinoy TV! Call your preferred pay TV operator now to subscribe.
