GMA Ends 2010 with a Bang

This early, Galvante can tick off what the early 2011 program mix looks like:

“Captain Barbell (with Richard Gutierrez) in the title role will introduce special effects and a league of superheroes. Our primetime queen, Marian Rivera, headlines the epic fiction soap Amaya. The drama series is set in the 1500s and backed up data furnished by the UP research department. A team of consultants check on details, read the script and comment on it to make sure everything is correct.”

She is just as proud of a weekly Wakasan series. The daily afternoon show will be hosted by prominent celebrities, and depicts stories about life, women, children, etc.

Capping the weekend is a horror-comedy series “that’s not gory but geared for kids,” says Galvante. “It will feature Philippine folklore and carry lessons for children.”

And oh yes, she adds, brace yourselves for a sayaw series called Dance With Me. The station’s first danserye, Galvante notes, will hold nationwide auditions to search for the best dancers.

Party Pilipinas FANS VS Zombies

Ipinagmamalaki ng Party Pilipinas ang world-class performance ng mga magagaling na Kapuso dance artists sa segment na ‘Sayaw Pilipinas’.

Mapa-jazz, ballet, ballroom, modern dance, backflips, krumping, isolation pati hiphop at breakdancing, kaya ng Sayaw Pilipinas.

Magagaling kasi at disiplinado ang mga miyembro nito na sina Mark Herras, Yassi Pressman, Rochelle Pangilinan, Diva Montelaba, Rocco Nacino, Enzo Pineda, Sef Cadayona, Mayton Eugenio at Winwyn Marquez.

“Lahat talented, gifted at madaling matuto,” sabi ni Miggy Tanchangco, ang dance head ng Party Pilipinas.

Ayon kay Miggy, mula sa unang step hanggang sa huling choreography at blocking, disiplinado at may dedikasyon sa sayaw ang miyembro ng Sayaw Pilipinas.

Sinisiguro ng grupong ito na walang umuulit sa mga sayaw nila tuwing Linggo.
Sabi nina Mark at Yassi, ang Sayaw Pilipinas ay mula sa mga dating segments na Boys iLike at Girls I Want.

Pinagsama ang dalawang segment nang pumasok sa Party Pilipinas ang mga direktor na sina Mark Reyes at Rico Gutier*rez noong Mayo.

Kasama ang dance groups na Manouevres at MaxMovement, nagkaroon ng bagong segment ang Party Pilipinas na may sariling identity.

Bukod sa mga regular na choreographers ng Sayaw Pilipinas tulad ng US-trained na si EuaJ Corpuz, kasama sa pagbuo ng mga performances ng nasabing segment ang Artistic Director ng Ballet Philippines na si Paul Morales bilang dance director.

Bukod sa Manouevres at MaxMovement, pasok din ang dance companies na Ballet Philippines at Airdance pati na ang GrooveJacks at Addlib na kapwa magagaling sa hiphop, at Seven na magagaling sa jazz at modern beats.

Tunghayan ang powerful dance segment na Sayaw Pilipinas tuwing Linggo sa Party Pilipinas ng GMA 7.

Project ni Heart sa Kapuso Hindi Muna Itutuloy!

May kinalaman kaya ang conflict nina Heart Evangelista at manager niyang si Annabelle Rama sa desisyon ng GMA 7 na iurong for next year ang airing ng pagbibidahan niyang Dwarfina?

Ang Dwarfina sana ang papalit sa Ilumina at nakapag-storycon na at alam na ng buong cast ang kani-kanilang role. Inaayos na rin ang taping schedule at natsika sa amin na location at costume na lang ng mga gaganap na duwende ang hinihintay.

Excited na ang lahat pati si direk Mike Tuviera na director ng fantaserye, hanggang matanggap namin ang advisory from GMA 7 na next year na ang airing ng Dwarfina. So, walang gagawin si Heart kundi ang Party Pilipinas. Sayang at tinanggihan niya ang isang movie project na pang-Metro Manila Film Festival.

Primetime series na pagbibidahan ni Jillian Ward ang napagdesisyunan ng GMA 7 na ipalit sa Ilumina at before the year ends daw ito eere. Iba ang primetime soap sa unang nabalitang afternoon soap na gagawin ng childstar at may title na Batang Milyonaryo.

Christmas offering daw ito ng network to be directed by Mark Reyes, pero ayaw pang ipaalam ang title.

Posible kayang maalis si Jillian sa Captain Barbell dahil sa bago niyang primetime soap na tiyak aabot next year ang airing, eh, sisimulan na yata ni Richard Gutierrez ang Captain Barbell dahil hanggang December 3 na lang ang Survivor Philippines: Celebrity Showdown.

Ang pagpapalit kaya ng project ang rason kung bakit may naririnig kaming extended up to December ang Ilumina?

Show ni Edu, mawawala na sa ere?

Mukhang nalalagay sa alanganin ang game show ni Edu Manzano na Asar-Talo, Lahat Panalo. Simula kasi nang magsimula ito ay hindi man lang nanalo (same lang sa Diz iz it na pinalitan nito) kaya nga ba magiging Diz iz it rin ang kapalaran nito?

Halos kakaisang season pa lang nito na nakatapat agad ang Showtime na kakacelebrate din lang ng 1st Anniversary nila.

Kung totoo ngang matitigbak na rin ang show na ito ni Edu, ito na ang pangatlong show na mapapatumba ng Showtime sa loob ng isang taon.

Revillame a ratings hit

Based on the ratings survey conducted by AGB Nielsen Media Research (Philippines) and provided by TV5, Willing Willie’s pilot episode topped the ratings, beating the shows aired in the same time-slot by ABS-CBN and GMA Network .

Willing Willie’s audience share ratings in Mega Manila (Metro Manila and nearby provinces) last Saturday was 33.8%, three percentage points higher than the ratings posted by the airing of the Filipino movie Ang Darling Kong Aswang aired on Channel 2. Wish Ko Lang!, the public service program aired on Channel 7 during the same time-slot received a rating of 28.8%.

Mr. Revillame was, of course, overjoyed. "We did not expect to be on the top right away," he said in Filipino during the broadcast of Willing Willie on Wednesday.

However, based on the ratings survey conducted by Kantar Media and provided by ABS-CBN, Ang Darling Kong Aswang topped the national ratings with 22.6%. Willing Willie scored 13.6%, followed by Wish Ko Lang! with 11.2%.

To which, Mr. Revillame said in Filipino: "To those who say we got a lower rating, believe what you want to believe. Just wait when we get to improve TV5 signal in the provinces."

Despite its claim that the airing of Willing Willie did not affect its ratings, ABS-CBN is reportedly preparing a new variety show to pit against Willing Willie on the 6:30 p.m. weeknight time-slot.

A source told BusinessWorld that ABS-CBN will have a new show called Shoutout featuring its young contract stars. The format will be similar to that of youth oriented variety show That’s Entertainment, which aired on GMA Network during the 1980s and early ’90s.

"If Willing Willie will erode the ratings of TV Patrol, adjustments will be necessary," the source privy to the planned show said on condition of anonymity. "Of course, everything is still up in the air at this point, depending on how strong Willing Willie will get in the ratings race. But ABS-CBN is preparing the show, just in case a change in the programming will be absolutely necessary.

BusinessWorld tried but failed to get the comment of GMA Network, the TV channel aside from TV5 which subscribed to the AGB Nielsen survey.

TV5 is controlled by Mediaquest Holdings, Inc. Mediaquest, a unit of the beneficial trust fund of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co., has a minority stake in BusinessWorld.

Duavit named GMA Network president

LAWYER Felipe L. Gozon has stepped down as president of GMA Network, Inc. after a tenure of more than a decade, which saw the listed broadcaster surpass rival ABS-CBN Corp. in Mega Manila television ratings.

GMA Network, Inc. announced yesterday Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr. as the firm’s new president. Mr. Duavit, who was executive vice-president, will remain chief operating officer.

Mr. Gozon, meanwhile, remains chairman and chief executive officer. Mr. Gozon took over the helm of GMA Network in October 2000, replacing Menardo R. Jimenez.

Mr. Duavit, who joined the firm’s board in 1999, was named president in a board meeting yesterday, GMA Network said.

He told GMA Network’s early evening newscast he would push for a free-to-air all-news channel next year.

Meanwhile, in a press briefing yesterday, network executives said the firm was on track toward reaching its year-end target of P3 billion in profits as it posted a net income of P2.272 billion from January to September, up by 6% from last year.

The network, however, reported a 26% decline in net income for the third quarter at P583 million, compared with P788 million in the same period last year. “But we are not very disappointed. We were actually expecting the drop,” Mr. Gozon said.

Mr. Gozon said the decline in profit for the third quarter was due to the absence of political advertisements. “We should note that for the past two quarters, we had P1.8 billion revenues from the political advertisements. But this dried up after the election season,” he said.

GMA Network also had to hike its rates this year, to match ABS-CBN, he said.

Consolidated revenues stood at P10.876 billion for the nine-month period, up by 8% than the P10.025 billion in the same period last year.

“The hike in GMA’s top line was backed by the accumulation of airtime revenues from media platforms and subscription revenues from international operations, which overtook last year’s performance,” the company said in a statement.

Flagship Channel 7 reported a 7% increase in revenues to P9.262 billion while Q Channel 11 recorded a 10% improvement to P346 million. The network also reported a 10% increase in international revenues to P700 million. Radio revenues reached P443 million, up by 73%.

Operating expenses went up by 11% to P6.181 billion while general and administrative expenses rose by 8% to P2.692 billion.

“The times ahead are rosy, and even if revenues for the company went on a short-term hiatus, we are positive that we can finish the year with another banner performance both in ratings and profits. Our advertising load is on the uptrend as big advertisers have returned and made huge commitments with the network,” Mr. Gozon said. -- A. M. P. Dagcutan

ABS-CBN, Biggest Loser with Willie Revillame’s new show?

No matter how one looks at it, ABS-CBN is the biggest loser with Willie Revillame’s new show, Willing Willie, now airing over Manny Pangilinan’s TV5.

The Lopezes lost their biggest income earner. Willie’s Wowowee used to earn anywhere between P5 million and P6 million daily, Monday to Saturday. Worse, ABS-CBN is now perceived as a bully by trying to stop TV5 from airing the show, and by going to court to seek damages.

Willie’s new program, which premiered last Saturday, was only supposed to air from six to eight in the evening. But it went overtime for one hour and 15 minutes!

This can only prove that TV5 is becoming a threat to both ABS-CBN and GMA-7. These two networks may have a lot of re-programming to do.

Iskul Bukol, Magbabalik-telebisyon!

Balik-telebisyon ang classic sitcom na Iskul Bukol makalipas ang mahi-git 20 years na pamamayagpag nito sa telebisyon.

Sa TV5 ito magbabalik, ang istasyon na grabe ang pagpapakitang-gilas sa TV industry, mula nang ilunsad ito ilang buwan pa lang ang nakararaan. May show na rin dito ang dalawa sa original na Tito, Vic and Joey -- sina Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon nga -- kaya siguro naging madali na (at mabilis) ang conceptualization at nego-sasyon.

Si Vic ay nagkaroon ng game show titled Who Wants to be a Millionaire? at ang bagong LOL with Wally Bayola and Jose Ma-nalo, na bongga na rin ang ra-ting sa first episode pa lang.

As per Joey, mula Wow Mali nu’ng ABC-5 pa lang ang TV5 ay nasa Singko na, at ngayon ginawa nang Wow, Me Gano’n? with Mr. Fu, at House Or Not.

Inililihim pa ito sa press, pero noon pa lang presscon ng first teleserye ng Kapatid Network, ang My Driver, Sweet Lover, ‘natunugan’ na namin ito mula sa isang taga-TV5, pero wala pa itong nabanggit na full details.
Ang nasabi lang sa amin, “isa itong malaking comedy na sumikat nang husto sa publiko!”

Hanggang sa narinig na-min the other day, mula pa rin sa isang TV5 production staff, na a few days ago ay naganap ang secret o closed-door story conference.

Hindi lang sure ang aming source kung pasok pa rin sa original cast ng bagong Iskul Bukol ang orig Tito Vic and Joey.

Malamang na may bago nang mga bidang bagets. Pu-wede ring mga tatay na lang ang role ng TVJ. Wala pang kumpirmadong cast as of now, pero we think na malamang kasama rito si Oyo Sotto, anak ni Vic, na may sariling show sa Singko na may mataas na ratings tuwing weekend, ang Midnight DJ, isa sa matitibay na TV5 shows na unang nilunsad ng network

GMA's Offering Salvo for 2011

GMA-7 is slated to offer three new primetime shows next year.

First, is the romantic-comedy I ♥ You Pare. Regine Velasquez and Dingdong Dantes let viewers take a peek into the flamboyant lifestyle of gays and drag queens.

Captain Barbell will be seen once again on the Kapuso Network as Richard Gutierrez brings life once again to the dual characters Teng and his superhero alter ego.

The Mars Ravelo classic is scheduled to air during the first quarter of 2011. This telefantasya will be different because Captain Barbell will be joined by a "league of superheroes" in battling villains.

For the last quarter of 2010, GMA-7 aired its first original Sinenovela offering, Kris Bernal's Koreana, and Iza Calzado's Beauty Queen.

Glaiza Rushed to Hospital!

Isinugod sa ospital si Glaiza de Castro kahapon ng madaling araw dahil hindi na naman makahinga pagkatapos gawin ang heavy drama scenes sa Grazilda na kinunan sa Jones Bridge sa Sta. Cruz, Manila.

Pagkatapos nang matinding pag-iyak ni Glaiza, nahirapan na siyang pakalmahin at kinailangang isugod ng mga staff ng Grazilda sa Manila Doctor’s Hospital para pakalmahin thru tranquillizer.

Pangalawang beses na itong nangyari kay Glaiza. Una’y nu’ng maging pangunahing kontrabida sa Stairway to Heaven.

Grabe rin kasi ang drama scenes ni Glaiza sa soap na pinagbidahan nina Dingdong Dantes at Rhian Ramos.

Sabi ng source, buti naman tinanggap agad ng katawan ni Glaiza ang medication hanggang nakatulog ito.

Normal na ulit ang katawan ng dalaga kaya nag-report ulit sa taping ng Grazilda dahil may naputol ang eksena na dapat gawin agad dahil walang ipalalabas sa next day airing.

Ang eksenang kinunan ay ang wedding scene nila ni Eric, role na ginagampanan ni Geoff Eigenmann.

Marian at Pokwang muntik nang mag-away

Kundi nalinaw ng Regal Films, may controversy na naman sanang puputok tungkol kay Marian Rivera na hindi nito alam. Natsikang nag-walkout ang actress sa set ng Super Inday and the Magic Bibe dahil na-insecure daw sa mas magandang costume ni Pokwang.

‘Yun naman pala, hindi pa nakikita ni Marian ang costume dahil sina Roselle Monteverde at Manny Valera na supervising producer palang ang nakakita at ang dalawa ang nag-disappprove sa costume at sila lang ang nakakaalam kung bakit.

Dwarfina, magsisimula na ng taping

Tuloy na tuloy na ang pagtatambal nina Heart Evangelista at Dennis Trillo na minsan nang nabulilyaso dahil sila ang magkapareha sa fantasy series ng GMA 7 na Dwarfina.

Next week naka-schedule ang first day taping kung matatapos ang costumes and sometime in November ang airing. Kundi kami nagkakamali, ang Dwarfina ang papalit sa Ilumina.

TV5 to air first teleserye

Encouraged by the success of its initial set of new shows, TV5 will launch its first daily series, My Driver Sweet Lover, next Monday, Oct. 25

My Driver Sweet Lover (My DSL for short) is a romance-comedy series featuring JC de Vera and singer Danita Paner.

"We at TV5 thought it would take us another two years before we could mount a massive production for a daily TV series," TV5 head of creative and entertainment production Perci M. Intalan told reporters last week. "But after we saw how [quickly] TV5 has grown in recent months, we became more confident that we can join the big networks and come up with our own series."

But instead of producing a drama series, TV5 chose to break with tradition by offering light comedy fare for its first venture. "We trust that we’re in the right direction because we’ve got a great story to tell, and powerhouse cast and crew," Mr. Intalan said.

"TV5 has started winning weekends [in the ratings race]. Now we’re making our weeknight programming more exciting."

Directed by Soxie Topacio and Eric Quizon, My DSL is the story of a charming jeepney driver (Mr. de Vera) and a bratty hotel heiress (Ms. Paner) who initially do not like each other. It has an all-star cast which includes Richard Gomez, Dina Bonnevie, Eddie Gutierrez, Pilita Corrales, Nova Villa, Yayo Aguila, Epi Quizon, Ruby Rodriguez, Arci Muñoz, Ramon Christopher, and Keempee de Leon.

The show will air weeknights at 10:30 p.m.

Beauty Queen - Mamaya na!

Iza Calzado will returns to primetime TV via The Beauty Queen, which will also star Katrina Halili and Filipina beauty queens like the 1969 Miss Universe Gloria Diaz, 2007 Binibining Pilipinas-World Maggie Wilson and Ms. Universe 2010 4th runner-up Ma. Venus Raj.

It will replace Marian Rivera's Endless Love, which will end on October 15. This new series is set to premiere on October 18, 2010.

Party Pilipinas All-Star 7th-Monthsary Bash

Maki-party na sa pinakamalaking selebrasyon ng Party Pilipinas dahil ngayong Oktubre 17 ang 7th monthsary ng pinaka-hippest at pinaka-engrandeng party sa telebisyon!

Dubbed as 7th Monthsary All-Star, pagsasama-samahin sa selebrasyong ito ang malalaking artista sa telebisyon at pelikula kasama ang mga magagaling na performers ng Party Pilipinas!

Abangan ang bonggang opening number dahil tampok rito ang all-time favorite dance hits hatid ng mga Kapuso stars na sila Rhian Ramos at Aljur Abrenica ng Ilumina, Glaiza de Castro at Geoff Eigenmann ng Grazilda, at ang kinababaliwang si Johnny ng Endless Love na si Mr. Dingdong Dantes.

Abangan din ang special Korean-inspired number nila Kris Bernal, Steven Silva at Rocco Nacino, ang lead stars ng latest afternoon soap na Koreana.

Pagandahan naman ang labanan ng special number ng sexy actress na si Katrina Halili, former Bb. Pilipinas-World Maggie Wilson at Pinay Hollywood actress Iza Calzado na mga bida sa bagong programang Beauty Queen!

At hindi rin dapat palagpasin ng mga manonood ang nakakatuwang Q&A portion ng dating beauty queen na si Janina San Miguel!

Hahataw din sa dance floor ang tween royalties na sina Barbie Forteza, Bea Binene, Jake Vargas at Joshua Dionisio na kabilang sa No. 1 youth-oriented drama Tween Hearts kasama ang XLR8!.

Tampok din sa kanilang 7th Monthsary All-Star ang special performances nila Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez, Singer-Songwriter Ogie Alcasid, RnB royalties Jaya, Janno Gibbs, Jay-R at Kyla.

Hindi rin dapat palagpasin ang production number ng all-time diva na si Rachelle Ann Go at pop heartthrob na si Mark Bautista.

TJ Trinidad, isa sa mga pinakabusy na leading man ng GMA7!

Kasama dapat si TJ Trinidad sa regional promotions ng cast ng Beauty Queen kahapon sa Davao, pero may sakit ang aktor, kaya nag-beg-off siya.

May taping din kasi mamaya si TJ para sa Beauty Queen at mas mahirap kung mabibinat siya at hindi makakapag-taping para sa bagong teleserye ng GMA 7.

Isa pa ay may big promotions sila bukas sa Party Pilipinas at kailangan doon si TJ, kaya pinayagan siya ng production staff na huwag nang sumama sa Davao. Excited si TJ na after Pilyang Kerubin ay may regular teleserye na naman siya sa Siyete.

Masaya rin siya na nagustuhan ang team-up nila ni Iza sa guesting nila kamakailan sa Pilyang Kerubin, kaya naisipan ng big bosses ng Kapuso network na gawin silang magkapareha sa Beauty Queen.

“The first time na nag-story conference kami, dapat afternoon series itong Beauty Queen, pero biglang nag-decide ang GMA 7 management na gawin na itong primetime, kaya mas maganda,” sabi ni TJ.

Dahil sa Beauty Queen, hindi natuloy ang request ni Regine Velasquez na maging magkapareha sila ni TJ sa I ♥ You, Pare na next teleserye ng Asia’s Songbird, pero sabi naman ng binata, in the future ay umaasa pa rin siyang magkakaroon sila ng teleserye together ni Regine.

Willing Willie ng TV5, alay ng TV5 sa Pamilyang Pilipino!

Magsisimula sa October 23 sa TV5 ang Willing Willie at mapapanood ito mula 6:30 hanggang 8:30 p.m. Originally, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. ang timeslot ng show ni Willie, pero inilipat ito sa ibang oras dahil alay niya sa pamilyang Filipino ang kanyang show na pilit na hinaharang ng ABS CBN dahil hindi pa tapos ang exclusive contract niya sa Kapamilya network.

Ipinaliwanag ni Willie na magkakasama tuwing hapunan ang pamilyang Filipino kaya nag-adjust sila ng TV5 sa oras para sama-sama ang mga pamilya sa panonood ng Willing Willie.
