Angeline Quinto's career continues to soar

Angeline Quinto's career soars high this 2011 since she won as the Grand Champion of the "Star Power: Search for the Next Female Pop Superstar" hosted by Sharon Cuneta on ABS-CBN.

It is evident that the drumbeat for Angeline Quinto’s career is working based on the number of PMPC Star Awards for Music trophies she took home this year. She was declared "New Female Recording Artist of the Year" for her eponymous album. More importantly, her first hit "Patuloy Ang Pangarap" won "Song of the Year," which many consider as the highest award.

Jonathan Manalo’s anthemic “Patuloy Ang Pangarap” is an appropriately soaring inspirational number for people who have lofty ambitions and big dreams and Angeline has no trouble hitting the song’s challenging notes. Her first album received a "platinum award"

We can say now that this year, Angeline Quinto is this year’s “Queen of Theme Songs.” It's not an official title but the title fits based on the theme songs used on television this year. She was tapped by the Kapamilya network to become the voice behind station IDs, a tourism campaign, a talk show, and various television series, as follows:
  • Bida Best Sa Tag-Araw (ABS-CBN Summer Station ID)
  • Piliin Mo Ang Pilipinas (Choose Philippines)
  • DZMM Radyo Patrol DZMM Silveradyo ID
  • Mahiwaga (100 Days to Heaven)
  • Kunin Mo Na Ang Lahat Sa Akin (Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin)
  • Sa Kris TV (Kris TV)
  • Ngayon (Reputasyon)
  • Sana Ngayon Lang Ang Kahapon (The Fierce Wife)
  • Patuloy Ang Pangarap (Maria La Del Barrio)
  • You’re My Home (Way Back Home)
  • Saan Darating Ang Umaga (Budoy)
Having won ABS-CBN’s reality singing contest, “Star Power: Search for the Next Female Pop Superstar” early this year, Angeline is a homegrown ABS-CBNStar Records contract artist.

More than her singing career, young singer Angeline Quinto’s first-ever movie is now underway. Angeline will be paired with heartthrob Coco Martin in a movie titled “You Light Up My Life” under Star Cinema. Maybe next year after the movie, a TV show? Why not!? Angeline is still young and as far as Star Magic is concerned, I know, they can do everything just to make Angeline a bigger star for the coming years.

Kuya Kim spends 'New Year' with a 'Matanglawin'

Pokwang, grateful with her countless blessings this year

With her countless blessings this year, comedienne Pokwang is very grateful. Besides her bountiful showbiz career, she’s also happy with her family.

It can be recalled that in May, Pokwang showed the public her newly built mansion in Antipolo City. It was also in the same period when she was welcomed as the newest member of “Happy Yipee Yehey!” She is also a proud cast member of “TODA Max,” which is now the country’s no. 1 sitcom.

But behind Pokwang’s jolly personality and innate hilarity is a mother and former overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who went through a lot of challenges like the tragic death of her son.

This side of Pokwang was seen when she portrayed the role of Medy in the movie “A Mother’s Story,” which was produced by “The Filipino Channel.” The story of this film revolves around a make-up artist who decided to illegally stay in the United States to work hard for her ill child. Also starring in this movie is Xyriel Manabat, Rayver Cruz, etc.

“The emotions I have exerted in this film are real, because I know how it feels to be away from your beloved family while working hard abroad,” Pokwang said.

Action Superstar Robin Padilla, Prince of Comedy Vhong Navarro and Angel Locsin, Pokwang’s co-stars in “TODA Max,” expressed their support for the comedienne’s new showbiz stint—as a dramatic actress.

Tonight in “Patrol ng Pilipino,” Zen Hernandez will present the stories of two Filipino families who troop to the church at dawn from December 16 to 24 for the Simbang Gabi.

Meet the Rodica siblings, who believe that resolved family conflicts are granted wishes brought by their continuous effort to complete the Simbang Gabi. Aside from believing that it is no longer a “panata” but a way of life, one of their demands is the speedy recovery of their brother who has just undergone a quadruple bypass surgery.

There is also the Macalacads who struggle to keep the virtue of the tradition despite trying to make both ends meet.

Meanwhile, Apples Jalandoni will explore how young Filipinos, whether rich or poor, find hope in Santa Claus. Apples will also follow the lives of Filipinos who dress up and work as Santa Claus to earn extra money in time for Noche Buena.

1,500 expectant mothers benefit from DZMM Buntis Congress

Over 1,500 pregnant women showed up and gained knowledge on reproductive health and pre- and post-natal care at the 9th DZMM Buntis Congress seminars held in different cities in the country this year.

DZMM anchor and OB-gynecologist Dr. Bles Salvador advised the future mothers to undergo a monthly check-up so they can monitor their babies’ development and prevent problems during delivery.

Salvador joined experts from the Department of Health (DOH), Commission on Population (COP), Midwives Association of the Philippines (MAP), and National Nutrition Council (NNC) in offering tips and lectures to educate the pregnant women and address the problem of maternal and infant mortality, disability, and complications during pregnancy.

The assembly in Manila held at SM Megamall last May gathered 1,000 pregnant mothers, while the session in Baguio City last October brought together 200 would-be moms. Aside from the 300 pregnant women who attended the congress in Zamboanga City, 150 breastfeeding mothers were also present to support its local government’s breastfeeding program.

MAP and DOH-NCR Regional Midwives Supervisor Elizabeth Dumaran, meanwhile, gave guidelines on nutrition and physical activity to ensure the health of the mom and the baby during pregnancy in all areas covered in the Philippines.

City health officers and officials from NNC also taught the participants the importance and fundamentals of breastfeeding, as well as the different techniques they can use.

Meanwhile, Dir. Eric Tayag, assistant secretary of the Department of Health, performed a sample exercise to the tune of “Waka-Waka” in the congress in Manila.

Artists such as “Star Power” grand winner Angeline Quinto, “Pinoy Dream Academy” finalist Liezel Garcia, balladeer Mark Echem, and celebrity mom Christine Bersola-Babao were also present to entertain and encourage the expectant mothers.

Baby bags were given away to all participants, while cash prizes and bedroom, bathroom, and recreation showcases were raffled away in the three assemblies hosted by DZMM anchor Winnie Cordero and the DJs of ABS-CBN’s regional radio stations.

DZMM, in partnership with DOH and NNC, has staged the Buntis Congress for the ninth straight year to give guidance to future moms and arm them with knowledge before and after they give birth. It is also the third year that DZMM organized sessions in cities outside Metro Manila.

This year’s congress highlighted the importance of breastfeeding as medical studies have proven that it aids the baby’s sensory and cognitive development and protects it against infectious and chronic diseases.
