"Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" Embarks in IMAX 3D! (Opens February 2)

Believe the impossible, discover the incredible as New Line Cinema's “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” embarks on an adventure of a lifetime in IMAX 3D! The film will be shown in local IMAX 3D cinemas, as well as digital 3D and regular theatres starting Thursday, Feb. 2.

Starring Dwayne Johnson, Vanessa Hudgens, Josh Hutcherson and Michael Caine, “Journey 2” takes moviegoers on a fun and fantastic new adventure to parts unknown, a place so remote it has lain hidden for centuries … and, when found, is almost impossible to escape.

Upon seeing the script for “Journey 2,” director Brad Peyton says, “I never imagined doing it small. Right away, I knew it had to involve land, sea and air, with creatures, caves, storms, underwater battles and aerial chases, and all of it set against the most incredible, breathtaking terrain. That meant utilizing the latest and best technology, to deliver something special in the 3D realm that the prequel ‘Journey to the Center of the Earth’ helped to establish.”

In 2008 that film broke ground as the first narrative feature to employ the Fusion System, a sophisticated digital 3D camera rig developed by James Cameron and cinematographer Vince Pace, and subsequently used on “Avatar.” Not surprisingly, the “Journey 2” filmmakers returned to the Cameron Pace Group for state-of-the-art strategies and equipment to capture the depth and scope Peyton wanted to achieve in a range of real-world environments.

Tom Hanks, the Perfect Dad in "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close"

Two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks stars as Thomas Schell, a devoted husband and father who was at the wrong place, at the wrong time during the fateful day of 9/11, in Warner Bros.' life-affirming drama, “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.”

The film is a story that unfolds from inside the young mind of Oskar Schell (Thomas Horn), an inventive eleven year-old New Yorker whose discovery of a key in his deceased father’s belongings sets him off on an urgent search across the city for the lock it will open. A year after his father died in the World Trade Center on what Oskar calls “The Worst Day,” he is determined to keep his vital connection to the man who playfully cajoled him into confronting his wildest fears.

As a screen character, Thomas Schell was a challenge because he is seen entirely through Oskar’s eyes, to the extent that much about his history and inner life remain mysterious -- except for the parts that have made an impression on Oskar and especially Oskar’s memories of their very best times together, which remain indelibly immediate to him.

To embody the essence of a father as captured in time by his young son, director Stephen Daldry thought early on of Tom Hanks. “We thought that in terms of Oskar’s memories of Thomas as the perfect dad...well, who else could that be but Tom Hanks?” recalls Daldry. “Tom took that responsibility to heart and created a real bond with child actor Thomas Horn that was evident to everybody on the set. They were absolutely charming together, which was great for me as a filmmaker, because they created this dynamic relationship and all I had to do was shoot it. It was an act of real dedication by an extraordinary actor and collaborator.”

Hanks was drawn to the way the script gets inside Oskar’s mind at a time when the power of logical facts to keep him grounded seems to have evaporated. “In the blink of an eye, the course of Oskar’s whole world changes, and he loses his only anchor,” Hanks says. “His father used to tell him that there are always clues and treasures to be found in the world. So when he finds his father’s key, it’s very interesting that Oskar devises his own elaborate hunt for what the key might mean, convinced it will somehow explain the unexplained to him. It becomes a very personal, intimate story of a kid trying to make sense in his own way of a nonsensical world.”

He adds: “It was easiest thing in the world for me to want to do this – as soon as I read it, there was not even any question.”

The actor says he gave a lot of consideration to the kind of father Thomas was to Oskar prior to his death. He also kept in mind that Thomas was himself a child of immigrants who took up the trade of jewelry as his only clear opportunity to support his family, even though he dreamed of being a scientist. “I think Thomas was someone who felt the real task in his life was to make sure that his very bright son became a well-rounded, content human being who might make the world a better place,” Hanks says. “Since Thomas himself grew up without a father, fathering Oskar was the most important thing to him. I think he loved inventing wild stories for Oskar, like the one he makes up about New York’s lost Sixth Borough, but he also very clearly designed these stories to get Oskar out in the world and help him feel safe there.”

In part, Hanks drew on his own experiences as a father. “The emotional part of it for me was going back and remembering what it’s like to have an 11-year-old kid who is bubbling over with life,” he says.

While Hanks believes Thomas was well aware that Oskar often showed signs of behavior akin to Asperger’s Syndrome, he also says Thomas readily accepted and even related to many of his son’s oddities and phobias, which made the two of them even closer. “I think Thomas wasn’t bothered at all by his son’s behaviors,” he says. “Instead, he looked for ways to build bridges over Oskar’s turbulence, over his constant questions, his flights of fancy and his fears. Yet because of that, when he’s gone, it magnifies the incredible loss for Oskar even more.”

A Tale as Old as Time in "Beauty and the Beast" 3D

One of the most popular and enduring romantic adventures the world has ever known became one of the most ambitious and entertaining animated motion pictures ever brought to the screen with Walt Disney Pictures' 30th full-length animated feature, ''Beauty and the Beast” which is coming to Philippine theaters for the first time in 3D.

This classic fairy tale about a beautiful young girl and her encounter with an enchanted beast has long fascinated and intrigued storytellers, filmmakers and their audiences. Through the artistry and imagination of the Disney creative team, an inspired song score by two Academy Award®–winning songwriters and the contributions of an enormously talented vocal ensemble, this age-old fantasy took on exciting new dimensions that are only possible through the magic of animation.

The "Beauty and the Beast" story is indeed “a tale as old as time" with variations on the central theme going as far back as Greek mythology. In 1550, Italian author Giovan Straparalo wrote the first account of the story as it is generally known. The tale grew in popularity during the 18th century with books by French authors Madam Le Prince De Beaumont and Madame Gabrielle di Villeneuve. In 1946, acclaimed French director Jean Cocteau used cinematic imagery and lyrical expression to bring this story imaginatively to the big screen ("La Belle et la Bete").

"Doing your own version of 'Beauty and the Beast' is as much a tradition as is the story itself," says producer Don Hahn. "Part of the fun is that each generation and culture adapts this story to be its own. The themes––you can't judge a book by its cover, and beauty is only skin deep–– are as relevant today as ever."

Screenwriter Linda Woolverton agrees, "The lessons of this story are truly timeless, especially for kids growing up today. It tells them to look beyond the surface and beyond materialism and that what is in their hearts and souls are the things that really matter."

The release of "Beauty and the Beast" in 3D comes at a time when both the art of animation and the 3D process are enjoying their greatest popularity.

"The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" Rated R-18 Without Cuts by MTRCB

Columbia Pictures' critically acclaimed and Oscar-nominated thriller “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” has been approved without cuts by the Movies & Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) with an R-18 rating. This means, only audiences 18-years-old and above may be admitted when it opens in selected theaters on Feb. 1.

“Dragon Tattoo” caused a stir when it was released in the US last December, owing to its dark themes and graphic scenes of sexual assault, violence and nudity.

Last Tuesday, the film earned five Academy Award nominations, notably for Best Actress (Rooney Mara), Best Cinematography and Best Film Editing.

Director David Fincher (“The Social Network”) uncoils the world of author Stieg Larsson’s global blockbuster thriller on the screen in “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.”

Cinema One Originals festival to invade the Queen City of the South

After filmmaker Remton Siega Zuasola bagged international recognitions for his film “Ang Damgo Ni Eleuteria,” it’s now the time for his fellow Cebuanos to celebrate filmmaking excellence via the Cinema One Originals Festival in Cebu City this February 11 to 16, at the SM City Cebu Cinema 8.

Among the films to be shown in the South installment of the festival are Cebuano-made “Di Ingon ‘Nato [Not Like Us],” “My Paranormal Romance,” “Ang Damgo Ni Eleuteria” and “Confessional.” Mindanaoan film “Imburnal,” which is also in Visayan dialect, is in this powerful lineup.

Also featured in the filmfest are titles that recently bagged awards in the 2011 Cinema One Originals Festival such as “Ka Oryang,” “Six Degrees of Separation from Lilia Cuntapay,” “Mga Anino Sa Tanghaling Tapat,” “Cartas de la Soledad,” “Sa Kanto Ng Ulap at Lupa,” “Sa Ilalim ng Tulay,” and “Big Boy.”

ABS-CBN Multimedia has recently culminated its “Amped4Fun” awareness campaign where players of Shaiya and WarRock Philippines submitted their own cheeky spin-off of DOT’s popular viral “It’s More Fun in the Philippines.”

Rare weapons and enhancements such as a red FAMAS weapon for WarRock and a +2 enchant for Shaiya were awarded to 11 players whose entries garnered the most ‘likes’ on Amped’s official Facebook page. Among the 109 entries from Shaiya and 183 from WarRock, Mark Achel Bacsafra Gagalac, Jerick Ebanreb, Jezreel Recolito, Clarisa Joyce Velasco, Drakken Joe, Noel Seblos, Geass Gelizon, Allan Abelada, Mark Dave Gregorio, Nikko Treveno, and Jhun Del Rosario emerged as winners last January 25.

Shaiya features a rich and expansive back story, clean graphics, immersive gameplay, tons of dungeons, and quests. Players can also choose which race their characters will come from including Human, Elves, Vail, and Nordein.

WarRock, on the other hand, gives players a fresh alternative to the various Role Playing games in the country with five different military character classes—Military Engineer, Scout, Combatant, and Heavy Weapons unit. Players can also enjoy technologically advanced vehicles and weapon systems.

World's Darkest Hero Rides Again in "Ghost Rider" Sequel

He fought the curse. Now, a new evil will make Johnny Blaze embrace his power. This February, the world’s darkest hero rides again in Warner Bros.’ supernatural action-thriller “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.”

Starring Nicolas Cage, the film is directed by Neveldine/Taylor – also known as Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor – who have earned a cult following with their stylish and edgy films, including “Crank” and “Gamer.”

Neveldine explains that the directors were excited to approach their new film for two major reasons. “We were thrilled to have the opportunity to direct a franchise film with Nicolas Cage, and, second, to work with this really cool, edgy, comic book series – I mean, this dude has a flaming skull and kicks major ass,” says Neveldine. “I think the studio wanted to do something edgier with this franchise, so our attitude and style of filmmaking fit perfectly with the tone they were hoping to see. We were all on the same page.”

With a free hand to give the film that edgy tone, the directors could let their imaginations run wild. “The only thing we knew we wanted to keep from the first film was Nick Cage. We wanted to change everything else – the way he looks, the way he dresses, the bike. We wanted souls to be burned and dragged to hell. And lucky for us, the studio said, ‘That’s great; that’s what we were hoping you’d say.’ And that became the start of our process. What we were really going for is a mood, a feeling, an aesthetic – to make him badass.”

That process continued all the way through production, as Neveldine and Taylor employ a kinetic style both in front of and behind the camera, as Cage explains. “The energy of making this film was a different experience,” says the actor. “It’s a much more wild, almost daredevil experience – even the way Mark Neveldine shoots. He’s like a stuntman, risking his life hundreds of times, hanging off of wires or shooting while skating on Rollerblades – he’s a very active, macho filmmaker. Fans are going to be blown away by the photography and Mark, Brian and (Director of Photography) Brandon Trost’s daredevil camerawork.”

Describing their intense set experience, Neveldine says, “At the end of the day, we have to get the performance and the shots, and we’ll get them any way we can. You’ll see us hanging off of cars and shooting on Rollerblades to push the cinematic envelope.”

Where other directors might choose to create the Ghost Rider’s world inside a computer, Neveldine/Taylor capture as much as they can practically. “We use real stunt guys and real motorcycle action – though we did set the guy’s head on fire in the computer afterwards,” says Taylor. “We think it makes for a better, more visceral experience for the viewer if they’re seeing something real.”

Editor Brian Berdan, who worked with the directors on Crank, says, “They are so creative; it’s all hand-held and intuitive and not totally planned out. That liveliness of a hand-held camera and someone with the sense of what to do with it makes it all really come to life. It can be a challenge to edit, because you get a ton of footage – some of which makes you initially think, ‘I can’t do anything with this,’ and then the camera will come in at just the right point and you grab exactly what you need!”

It’s a style that Cage relishes. “They have this gonzo energy, this wild intensity – they’re both really up for anything. I think I fit into that, too.”

“We were excited for our tone and dark humor to leak into the project,” says Neveldine. “At the same time, it was important to keep it grounded and hard-hitting.”

Opening across the Philippines on Feb. 16, “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

"Showbiz Inside Stories (SIS)," to replace "E-Live" this February

"E-Live," hosted by Luis Manzano, Bianca Gonzales, Nikki Gil and Ogie Diaz, will bid goodbye this February on its timeslot every Saturday afternoon on ABS-CBN because of having low ratings.

"E-Live" premiered August 4, 2007 and was first hosted by the Pinoy Big Brother hosts, Toni Gonzaga, Mariel Rodriguez, and Bianca Gonzales. After four years of airing, this show is said to bid goodbye same as "Happy Yipee Yehey!" this February.

According to some rumors, the title of the next talk show, "Showbiz Inside Stories (SiS)," which is just like the old talk show that Carmina and Janice did in their former network, that will compete to the timeslot ruled by "Startalk TX," the longest running showbiz-oriented television talk show in the Philippines, which will celebrate their 17th year in television this October.

It will again be replaced with another showbiz oriented talk "Showbiz Inside Stories" or SiS show which will be hosted by Janice de Belen, Ogie Diaz and the comebacking Kapamilya Carmina Villaroel. Carmina will be joining her former SiS co-host, Janice are the ex-"SiS" hosts (from GMA7) and Ogie Diaz, from "E-Live."

Ted helps Sendong victims via "Kapamilya, Shower Na!"

Ted Failon will heed the call of the victims of Typhoon Sendong for the chance to attend to their hygiene on “Failon Ngayon,” on Saturday (Jan 28).

With their homes washed away and their daily subsistence now their top priority, the survivors of typhoon Sendong barely have had the time to wash and bathe, let alone the resources to perform these tasks.

With this in mind, Ted will be taking the award-winning “Kapamilya, Shower Na!” program to Cagayan de Oro. Through the program, the typhoon victims will be able to bathe in a shower van for ten minutes each. They will also receive free towels, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush and deodorant.

“Kapamilya, Shower Na!” was put together by Ted, Sagip Kapamilya and DZMM during the aftermath of Typhoon Ondoy in 2009. The program proved to be of great help to the victims, especially the 800 typhoon-displaced evacuees at ULTRA.

The program will again be able extend help, this time to the survivors of Sendong, among whom is nine-year old Florence Punay. Florence, who currently resides at the Tent City in Calaanan, Cagayan de Oro, doesn’t get to take a bath in the morning before going to school because the designated shower areas are often occupied.

“Kapamilya, Shower na!” won the coveted Award of the Year for Communication Management and the Award of Excellence in the Special Events category accorded by the International Association of Business Communicators Philippines during the 2010 Philippine Quill Awards and another Award of Excellence from the Anvil Awards given by the Public Relations Society of the Philippines in 2011.

Prima Ballerina Lisa Macuja guests in TV5’s Batibot this January 28

Internationally-renowned Filipina prima ballerina and the first non-Soviet soloist to dance with the historic Kirov Ballet, Lisa Macuja, is featured as the guest story teller in TV5’s most-favorite kids’ show "Batibot" at 8:30 a.m. this Saturday, January 23. The prima ballerina also reminisced with the "Batibot" team about that first time 20 years ago, shortly after her homecoming from Russia, when she was featured in "Batibot" dancing to an original "Batibot" song “Umihip Tulad ng Hangin.”

This time, Lisa will narrate an original "Batibot" story about “Hannah Hippo” an eager ballet student and also tells her own story about growing up and learning to be a professional ballet dancer. “Go Diego Go” features the story of eight year old boy Diego Marquez who helps animals in danger while “Penguins of Madagascar” follows Skipper, Kowalski, Rico, and Private in their mission to protect their home in the Central Park Zoo.

Meanwhile, “The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron” is about eleven year old boy Jimmy who has a stunning IQ and love for science. Watch him save his town mostly from his experiments gone wrong.

The Hulk

On Sunday, Marvel provides action-filled morning with two of its most famous superheroes, Spiderman and The Hulk, as they embark on their respective journeys as ordinary humans turned into mutants.

Peter Parker is a nerdy high school student attending a science fair when he was bitten by a radioactive spider and exhibit powerful spider-like abilities. Watch him save the world from villains in “Spiderman” at 8:30 AM.

Banner, on the other hand, was accidentally exposed to a test detonation blast of a gamma bomb he invented which turned him into a giant, raging, humanoid monster. Get to see him as “The Incredible Hulk” at 9:00 AM.

The most-watched television network by kids in the United States, Nickelodeon, gave ABS-CBN the exclusive rights to air its premium titles across all its media platforms in 2010. Pinoy kids already enjoyed “Spongebob Squarepants,” “Dora The Explorer,” “El Tigre,” and “Avatar” which all had successful runs in the Kapamilya Network.

Marvel, on the other hand, which is a large American entertainment company that gave birth to the world’s most famous superheroes through its comic books also entrusted its titles to ABS-CBN. The network earlier aired “The Avengers” and “X-Men” on its weekday morning block.

Aside from Nick and Marvel shows, viewers can also catch the back-to-back airing of “Sailor Moon” and “Naruto Shippuden 4,” Mondays to Fridays, beginning 8:30 AM.

Mornings are definitely better spent with the new Kapamilya cartoon offerings in ABS-CBN.

"Precious Hearts Romances presents Lumayo ka man sa Akin" soars high in ratings on its premiere

The much-awaited return of Precious Hearts Romances afternoon drama series pleased many Filipino viewers as its latest TV adaptation "Lumayo Ka Man Sa Akin" on ABS-CBN got the most number of televiewers on its timeslots since its premiere Monday (Jan 23).

“Lumayo Ka Man Sa Akin” obtained a national TV rating of 10.5% vs its rival program “Love You” on GMA with 8.1%. The show also had more viewers last Tuesday (Jan 24) when its TV rating increased to 11.4% vs GMA's 9.4%.

Only a few pages of Janine’s story was told yet viewers were immediately captivated by the show topbilled by Maja Salvador with leading men Jason Abalos and Patrick Garcia.

As the story continues this week, Janine (Maja Salvador) gets to know her biological mother Consuelo (Ina Raymundo) whom she is meeting for the first time. She also remains mum about her real identity especially after she saw how happy and content her mom’s family is right now.

Ex-Housemates want Wendy and Carlo out of "Big Brother" house

The votes of “Pinoy Big Brother Unlimited” viewers will determine who among this week’s nominees and Team High Voltage members Carlo, Divine, Joya, and Wendy will be kicked out of the Big Brother house in the program’s seventh eviction night this Saturday (Jan 28).

But for some ex-housemates who once lived and got to know this week’s nominees, both Wendy and Carlo deserve to be evicted.

Ex-housemates Roy, Naprey, and Ryan remarked that Wendy does not possess the determination and willingness to stay in the Big Brother house, which they said should be reason enough for her leaving the competition. According to them, only the resolute are worthy of getting into the top 14 housemates.

Roy also said that Wendy’s romantic fling with fellow housemate Carlo did not do her any good, and eviction would save her from further damaging her image.

“It would help her so things won’t get too complicated, so her relationship with her boyfriend, her family and her reputation would be saved,” Roy said.

Ex-housemates Luz and Erica also agreed, saying that Carlo and Wendy are not good role models for the program’s dedicated viewers, especially the young.

Luz explained, “Being lonely inside the house is not an excuse. You should be accountable for your actions.”

Former housemate Kim also said that Carlo was selfish when he allegedly sabotaged Ryan’s chance to be part of the top 14 via a task that would have saved Ryan from eviction.

The ex-housemates have spoken, but who among Carlo, Wendy, Divine, and Joya did better to prove themselves worthy of another week inside the Big Brother house?

The Day After 9/11 in "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close"

One of the most definitive novels about 9/11 becomes one of the year’s most cathartic cinematic experiences as Warner Bros. brings to the screen “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close” starring Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock. Directed by Stephen Daldry (“The Reader,” “The Hours”), the film has been nominated for Best Picture at this year's Academy Awards.

In 2005 the novelist Jonathan Safran Foer, already renowned for his blend of incisive comedy and tragedy in his debut novel “Everything Is Illuminated,” published his follow-up “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.” His second novel was, on the one hand, the playful story of an unusually precocious and sensitive boy who invents fantastical devices, dreams about astrophysics, collects a vast assortment of random facts – and is compelled into a quixotic odyssey through the fabric of New York. At the same time, the novel was the first major literary exploration into the grief of 9/11 families, and a study of how a child’s imagination helps him navigate overwhelming fear and unfathomable loss in the wake of events that no logic could possibly reconcile.

When Stephen Daldry read the book, he was struck most of all by Oskar’s subjective point of view. An unusual child with arrestingly high intelligence yet eccentric and obsessive behaviors that might put him on the autistic spectrum, Oskar describes the world around him with his own particular mix of naiveté and insight, nervousness and boldness, incomprehension and a need to understand. Most of all, Daldry was intrigued by how this POV, just like a child’s imagination, combined random thoughts, flashes of memory, lists of ideas and impromptu fantasies with pure emotion – all at a moment when life has irrevocably changed for Oskar’s family and the world around him.

“I found it truly compelling that Jonathan Safran Foer told this story not only from the perspective of a boy enduring unimaginable heartbreak, but a boy who has his own singular view of everything,” says Daldry. “It’s a perspective that is engaging, inventive and emotionally rich.”

Oskar’s very personal experience of September 11th, and what came after, was brought to the fore in a screenplay adaptation by Eric Roth, who wanted to be true to the distinctive immediacy of Foer’s novel. “It’s a very emotional book and I hope it is a very emotional movie,” says Roth. “There’s also a real kinetic energy to the book – and the challenge was to translate that into visual imagery.”

The book wove many themes – of individual and national trauma, of childhood’s strangeness, of the nature of tragedy and the endurance of love through family hardship – into its tapestry. Each of those themes was key to the storytelling, but Roth found his way in through one particular element: the relationship between Oskar and his father, Thomas (Hanks), who is seen in the film entirely through Oskar’s subjective memories, which are in turn fueled by a confusing mixture of love, loss and lingering questions.

Oskar deeply misses his father’s so-called “reconnaissance expeditions,” clever puzzles that Thomas created for Oskar to solve, not only as inspired father-son games but also to help him engage with the world despite his social awkwardness. So when he finds the mysterious key in the bottom of a vase hidden in the dark recesses of his father’s closet, Oskar propels himself into a new mission to ferret out the key’s meaning.

His only clue to the key’s potential origins is the name “Black,” written on the envelope in which he found it, so Oskar dutifully makes an ambitious plan to visit all 472 people named Black in the New York City phone books, even though, according to the math, it will take him three years to do so.

Like many kids with gifted intelligence, high sensory sensitivity and impaired social skills, Oskar thrives on schedules, rules and facts yet his search takes him far from the predictable and the comfortable. But no matter what obstacles stand in his way, Oskar is determined to complete his task.

“Oskar is a kid who is different, but in a wonderful way,” notes Roth. “He might have a form of Asperger’s but he also has a great imagination and a real sense of curiosity along with his many fears. For a long time, he was kept afloat very much by his father who enjoyed so many similar things. So now, when Oskar finds his father’s key a year after his death, he believes it has to unlock something – a piece of advice, an object, some wisdom that his father left for him. And it leads him on an adventure that is his way of coming to terms with grief and all sorts of other things.”

As Roth began compacting Foer’s wide-ranging plot and finding the cinematic structure, he found Foer to be a supportive resource. “Jonathan is a wonderful novelist but my ability is to be a good dramatist and bring the work alive on the screen. He really trusted me in that process and we developed a very close and collaborative relationship.”

Adds Stephen Daldry: “Jonathan really understands the difference between a book and a script, and was very helpful. He never once uttered the phrase, ‘Well, in the book…’ He was always open to interpretation and reinvention.”

"Budoy" continues to soar high in National Ratings

Joey Marquez walks out as judge of "My Girl" pageant on "Happy Yipee Yehey"

There are only a few weeks left before the much-awaited grand finals of the “My Girl” pageant on “Happy Yipee Yehey.” The competition among its beautiful and lovely contenders gets fiercer and more intense.

The pageant’s judges modeling and beauty expert Jonas Gaffud, Joey Marquez and 2005 Miss International are also having a hard time in evaluating the contestants. In one incident during the pre-finals, Joey and Jonas’ opinions clashed and debated with regards to make-up.

This prompted Joey to jokingly walk out from the HYY set. However, at the end of the pre-finals segment, the judges hugged. HYY hosts Randy Santiago, John Estrada and Rico J Puno said that judging a contest like “My Girl” is very critical. That’s why it’s normal for the judges to have colliding views, especially now that the pageant is getting more intense.

Fil-Am UFC Fighter Mark Muñoz injured, Sonnen gets another opponent

The upcoming Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) event dubbed “UFC on Fox 2” has undergone a major change, as Filipino-American Mark "The Filipino Wrecking Machine" Muñoz is pulled off the fight card due to injury. His opponent Chael Sonnen will face English middleweight contender Michael Bisping instead.

This was announced by UFC president Dana White recently. Supposedly, the winner of the Muñoz - Sonnen bout will face Anderson Silva for the UFC Middleweight title in a proposed stadium-sized UFC event in Sao Paolo, Brazil, while Bisping and Damian Maia will headline the third installment of the UFC on Fox series. Now, Maia will fight Chris Weidman to complete the 3-fight card.

Meanwhile, the main event featuring former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans and Phil Davis will go on as scheduled. Balls (SkyCable Channel 34), the home of the UFC in the Philippines, will broadcast the event on January 29 at 11:30am.

The orthodox Evans, 16-1-1, is currently riding a three-fight win streak, including a second-round technical knockout victory over Tito Ortiz in August last year. Davis, 9-0, on the other hand, considers Evans as his toughest competitor so far. The two fighters were previously scheduled to headline UFC 133 but David suffered a knee injury and pulled out of the fight with Ortiz sliding in to take his spot.

Top middleweights Sonnen and Bisping are both known for their gift of gab. Both fighters already produced notable soundbites in the run-up to the fight. Fans expect fireworks in and out of the Octagon.“I am going to knock the teeth out of this snot nosed Brit who calls himself royalty, who calls himself a Count,” Sonnen said.

"Sarah G Live!" is the title of Pop star Sarah Geronimo’s musical show on ABS-CBN that will premiere on February. This will be aired every Sunday night. It’s Sarah's first musical show on ABS-CBN and the pop star is excited though quite nervous with this new challenge in her career. The pop superstar will be joined by a special co-host weekly.

Ex-SiS hosts, to have a reunion talk show on ABS-CBN

Carmina Villaroel and Janice de Belen had finally inked with ABS-CBN exclusive contracts after staying in the Kapuso network for several years. Last year, Janice joined ABS-CBN's advocate-serye "Budoy," and after rave reviews of her performance, the actress/TV host decided to sign a 2-year exclusive contract with the network. And after much speculation, Carmina has decided to also jump ship and join her former "SiS" co-host in ABS-CBN to take part on several acting vehicles and hosting stints. According to reports, she will topbill a primetime drama with child superstar Zaijan Jaranilla no less.

A talk show is also being cooked for the, which will serve as a sort of reunion after their 8 years of hosting GMA's morning show. When Carmina was asked about the upcoming talk show, she described it as not being a typical show. She also stated that she can’t go into the details but she reveals “mas may puso (ang show)“.

"Underworld" Sequel Awakens to No. 1 Spot, Grosses P49.72-M in 4 Days

Rabid fans welcomed the return of Kate Beckinsale to the “Underworld” franchise, catapulting the 3D 4th installment “Underworld Awakening” to the No. 1 spot at the Philippine box-office for the Jan. 20 to 23 frame.

The sequel slew the competition with a nationwide gross of a stunning P49.72-million opening weekend, this according to Victor R. Cabrera, managing director of Columbia Pictures which distributed the film locally.

Abner Mercado fights anew for freedom of ailing inmates

Broadcast journalist Abner Mercado will once again campaign for the freedom of the elderly and ailing inmates in different correctional institutions this Thursday (Jan 26) on “Krusada” following the recent deaths of some of these convicts.

In 2008 and 2011, Abner told of the stories of the elderly and seriously sick inmates whose only wish was to be granted executive clemency so they could spend their dying days with their loved ones.

This advocacy is close to Abner’s heart. He shares, “I empathize with those who have been doomed to spend the rest of their days behind bars in a decrepit condition, and whose only way out is death.”

Abner met Esmarie “Cheng” Salazar in June 2011. Cheng was a 52-year old inmate at the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong who was suffering from stage four of breast cancer. She applied for a pardon, but didn’t live to see her request granted.

Cheng’s story is similar to that of Querubin Libo-on, a convict at the New Bilibid Prison. With his request for clemency not granted, Querubin died of throat cancer inside the prison.

The 2012 Screen Actors Guild Awards, live on Velvet

Velvet, the home of the biggest red carpet events, starts off the glamorous awards season, once again, with the live telecast of the much-awaited 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards on January 30 (Monday) at 9:00am with a same-day primetime telecast at 9:00p.m.

Once a year, actors stop and pause for a while to put on a judge's hat and select who among their fellow actors deserve recognition, for their excellent work in film and television, through SAG. It is the only award-giving body created by actors solely for actors.This year's show will be produced by award-winning director/producer Jeff Margolis.

In the film categories, George Clooney and Meryl Streep lead the nominations in the Best Actor and Best Actress categories, respectively, for the SAG Awards this year.

Clooney, nominated for his portrayal of a single father in “The Descendants,” is joined in this category by Hollywood heavyweights Leonardo Dicarpio (“J. Edgar) and Brad Pitt (“Moneyball”), along with Jean Dujardin (The Artist) and Demian Bichir (A Better Life).

Streep is notable in “The Iron Lady” as Dame Margaret Thatcher, but pits her against equally powerful performances by Viola Davis (The Help), Glenn Close (Albert Nobbs), Tilda Swinton (We Need To Talk About Kevin) and Michelle Williams (My Week With Marilyn). Apart form Davis' nomination, civil rights-themed drama The Help topped the SAG Awards nominations with four nods including best ensemble cast in a motion picture and Best Supporting Actress. Other nominees for best ensemble cast were The Artist, Bridesmaids, The Descendants and Midnight In Paris.

In the television arena, Emmy award-winning Modern Family, created by Christopher Lloyd and Steve Levitan, topped the nominees, collecting five nominations for best comedy ensemble and acting citations for Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet and Sofia Vergara. Dexter and 30 Rock on the other hand, garnered three nods apiece –both series scoring mentions in their respective comedy and acting series categories as well as noms for leads Tina Fey and Michael C. Actress Julianna Margulies was also nominated, for the third time, for Best Actress in a Drama Series for her role as lawyer Alicia Florrick on The Good Wife, which is in the running for Outstanding Performance by An Ensemble in a Drama Series. Pokwang topbills family drama "Maala-ala Mo Kaya" episode this Saturday

After the success of her film "A Mother's Story," comedienne Pokwang will make TV viewers cry as she topbills “Maalaala Mo Kaya” this Saturday (January 28) in a family drama episode where she portrays the role of Tita, a devoted wife and mother who pursued working as a field health worker to support her family.

Her job took a toll on Tita's life when she discovered her husband's infidelity which later on led to their marriage's annulment. Things got worse for Tita when she lost the custody of her children. Pokwang’s MMK episode also features Gardo Versoza, Perla Bautista, Dexter Doria, Jacob Dionisio, Izzy Canillo, Marissa Sanchez and Cheska Billiones.

Mark Wahlberg produces and plays “Chris Farraday” in Baltasar Kormakur’s "Contraband"

For "Contraband," Director Baltasar Kormákur employed the same casting technique he used during the years he made movies in his home country. Rather than choosing an actor by his or her looks, the director casts according to the performer’s personality. “I like to find the core of people,” he says. “The outer appearance is less important. What is the person? You try to figure that out and make that right for the character.”

The first actor cast was the same man to whom the director brought his ideas for a film inspired by the one in which he last performed. Kormákur commends: “Mark Wahlberg has a mixture of boyish charm and toughness, and you believe him as a blue-collar guy. Chris has actually walked out of the criminal world, but then he’s forced back in. That’s the great thing about heist-thrillers. It’s great to see people step outside the norm and do something that the rest of us wouldn’t do.”

Describing his character, Wahlberg explains: “Chris is definitely a thinker, but he is not afraid to raise his voice or get his hands dirty.” For Wahlberg, when his character finds himself back in the game, and possibly over his head, that’s when the fun begins. He offers: “Chris is continuing to try to figure out a way to survive, to still solve the problem and then get his ass home to his wife and kids.”

What drew you to this project?

I saw the original movie and really liked it a lot. These are the kind of movies I like to watch, with the kind of characters I like to play. Now our new thing is to try to find cool European films, obtain the rights and remake them.

Can you describe your character, Chris Farraday?

He is just a good, hard-working guy trying to do the right thing. Unfortunately, his brother-in-law is not the sharpest guy around so Chris has to go back and clean up his mess. This forces him back into the world of smuggling.

What do you like about Chris?

I like the fact that he is more of a thinker, even though he gets pretty violent in certain situations. The way he has to think and react in all those different situations really appeals to me.

He is in a world of criminals.

Yes, but he is nicer than the other guys in the movie and you want to root for him. Chris is definitely respected in that criminal world. He knows how to stick up for himself.

He would do anything to protect his family. Do you identify with him in that respect?

Absolutely. There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do to try to protect my family and provide for them. It doesn’t take a lot for me to get into that head space.

As a producer, how much input did you give the director on set?

You should always try to give the director the freedom and space he needs to do his thing. There are times when I find myself looking at the big picture, but considering that this is Baltasar’s (director) second go with the story, he knew this movie better than anybody else. I wanted to give him as much freedom as possible. It’s a fine line to walk.

What can you say of Baltasar Kormákur as a director?

He is great with actors. I thought that all of his choices were very smart and instinctive. He is really talented. Being an actor himself, he has a unique understanding of what’s going on in front of and behind the camera. He knows how to communicate with everyone and give encouragement. He’s also very easy to get along with. Baltasar really cares about his work. So, if anybody is not trying he is going to say something.

Would you like to work with him again?

All I can say is that if I could make the rest of the movies in my career with him, I would. I’m actually hoping to do another film with him in spring.

How do you see Baltasar’s future in the industry as a filmmaker?

Hopefully Hollywood, and bigger budgets, won’t spoil him. He is used to making small independent movies without all the bells and whistles.

Do you think his background of making small independent movies helped him on this film?

Batlasar managed to shoot this movie in 37-days. He did it with all the action and for the budget he had to work with. After "Contraband," I went and shot a comedy that took almost twice as long, with no action.

How would you describe "Contraband?"

At the end of the day, it’s an action movie. But I also think it has many strong characters that separate it from similar action films.

How was it working with Ben Foster, who plays your best friend Sebastian, in the movie?

I’ve wanted to work with Ben for some time. He was my first choice for that part. The first time we met, we really hit it off. Just like Giovanni Ribisi, who plays Tim Briggs in the movie, he responded to the material. Ben Foster is an extraordinary actor and an intense guy.

What did you think Kate Beckinsale brought to the role of as your wife, Kate Farraday?

I thought she was great. I was thrilled when she came on board.

What do you think appealed to her about "Contraband" that made her want to be a part of it?

When you get successful in a certain genre, it’s sometimes difficult to say “no” to those same types of movies. Kate wanted to get back to something real and gritty. She showed up and did a great job.

How did she surprise you?

I didn’t really know her. She comes off as this really sophisticated and elegant woman but she doesn’t mind getting in the mud, which she literally did on her first day of the shoot.

Mexican actor Diego Luna (Gonzalo) has a small but quite relevant part in the film.

Diego is awesome. I was a big fan of his and I was so excited that he was going to come and play this part for us. He is such a sweet and really talented guy.

You have some frantic moments with Diego in "Contraband." Do you enjoy shooting action?

I enjoy shooting the action and fight scenes. Especially if I’m hitting and not getting hit back, like in the scenes with Giovanni Ribisi. I have always been a huge fan of Giovanni’s work, too. He has a very strong presence in this movie.

The truth is that you have assembled quite an impressive cast for "Contraband."

We have a really great cast. It was one of those things that just came together. As a producer, I’m always fighting for the people I want. When you get an idea of someone for a role, it’s hard to veer off from that.

Most of the film was shot in New Orleans.

I love New Orleans. The restaurants are fantastic and they have great crews. People really work hard there. They are enthusiastic about it and care about the movies they are making. It’s a great town. I’m actually shooting another movie there right now.

You also shot some scenes in Panama. What was that experience like?

It was great because we didn’t have any restrictions. We got into a van and that was it. We ran around the city and shot some great stuff. That energy was awesome for the movie.

“Sarah G. Live!” to replace “Gandang Gabi Vice”?

Sarah Geronimo’s upcoming musical show titled “Sarah G. Live!” is rumored to replace the top-rating comedy-talk show of Vice Ganda, “Gandang Gabi Vice.” According to reports, Sarah Geronimo's new primetime extravaganza, "Sarah G Live," will premiere on February, occupying early primetime. She will be joined by a special co-host weekly.

“Very happy po ako sa concept nung show. Makakasama ko ang ibang artists din, magagaling na artists. Parang every Sunday night, may concert ako sa Araneta. Parang yun ang feeling," Sarah said in an interview with PEP.ph.

It seems now that the Kapamilya network is now exploring more of its talents' potentials for new program platforms.

Sarah will be leaving the musical-variety show "ASAP 2012" to concentrate fully on “Sarah G. Live.”

There are speculations that "Happy Yipee Yehey!" as a noon-time show of ABS-CBN and also "e-Live," hosted by Luis Manzano, Bianca Gonzales, Nikki Gil and Ogie Diaz,because of having low ratings.

E-Live premiered August 4, 2007 and was first hosted by the Pinoy Big Brother hosts, Toni Gonzaga, Mariel Rodriguez, and Bianca Gonzales. After four years of airing, this show is said to bid goodbye same as HYY this February.

The Los Angeles Lakers are going head to head with the Indiana Pacers on Monday (Jan 23) in a match that will air live on Studio 23 at 10:30 a.m.

The force is back in 3D "Star Wars episode I : The Phantom Menace"

From visionary filmmaker George Lucas, “Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace” is back with an immersive 3D dimension for a richer cinematic experience.

Following the first acclaimed and hugely successful Star Wars films, ”Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace was released in 1999. The movie starred Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon Jinn and Ewan McGregor as his apprentice Obi-Wan-Kenobi, a determined young Jedi Knight. Natalie Portman played Queen Amidala. Jake Lloyd starred as Anakin Skywalker. It is a fantastically exciting adventure set 32 years before the events of the original.

Writer, director and producer George Lucas is the creator of the phenomenally successful Star Wars saga and the Indiana Jones series. Lucas directed his first feature film, THX 1138, in 1970. In 1971, Lucas formed his own film company, Lucasfilm Ltd. In 1973, he co-wrote and directed American Graffiti. Four years later, Lucas wrote and directed Star Wars, which broke all box office records and earned seven Oscars.

The Star Wars saga is a modern-day fairy tale reflecting the vision of George Lucas. Lucas imbued this new myth with pieces of American pop culture, including movie westerns, swashbucklers and – for seasoning – Japanese samurai epics. Star Wars was also a reaction against Watergate, Vietnam and other periods of domestic turmoil that seemed to undermine the concept of the hero for disillusioned Americans.

With the Star Wars saga, Lucas decided to bring together these recognizable, modern-day threads under the umbrella of the basic mythic structure – the journey of the hero – that has been in place for thousands of years, in hundreds of civilizations. "Munting Heredera" ends incredible nine-month long journey

After months of dominating on primetime, GMA-7’s "Munting Heredera" concludes its successful nine-month journey with a nerve-racking finale week from January 30 to February 3.

Intended to run for only 13 weeks, the Kapuso family drama received several extensions after consistently topping ratings charts. The show garnered its highest audience share last August 30, 2011 with an overwhelming 49.5 points among Mega Manila households according to AGB Nielsen (based on May 9, 2011 to January 17, 2012 Mega Manila households data). To this day, "Munting Heredera" remains at the top of its game as it continues to register high ratings relative to its competition.

Likewise the show made its presence felt on the internet as netizens avidly followed and discussed the many twists and turns in the story.

From the show’s basic plot, which tells of a grandmother searching for her missing heiress, the writers of "Munting Heredera" headed by Agnes Gagelonia-Uligan and its award-winning director, Maryo J. delos Reyes were able to make the story even more engaging by introducing new characters and sub-stories.

While the story focused on the search for the rightful heiress to the Montereals’ riches, "Munting Heredera" also shed light on other issues and revelations involving other players in the story. The eliminated kiddie cooks in the top-rating “Junior Master Chef Pinoy Edition” are making a comeback to continue their quest to become the first ever Pinoy Junior MasterChef.

Starting tomorrow (Jan 21), Athena, Bea, Bianca, Emman, Gino, Iain, Judel, Louise, Nadine, and Tricia will battle each other for the next few weeks in a series of cook-offs, where only one of them will be given the chance to once again penetrate the culinary competition.

For the first wildcard round, the kids will be have to invent their own dish, made from ingredients such as kiat-kiat, eggplant, dalagang bukid, chili leaves, sweet potato, lomi noodles, and blue chocolate.

This time, the top 7 kiddie cooks Acee, Caitlin, Jobim, Kyle, Mika, Miko, and Philip will judge the wildcard contenders’ dishes, together with Chef Ferns, Chef Lau, Chef Jayps, and host Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo.

The kiddie cooks of the reality show continue to impress viewers with their creations as data from Kantar Media revealed that it is one of the most watched programs on weekends. Last Saturday (Jan 14), “Junior MasterChef Pinoy Edition” obtained an average TV rating of 23.1%, trampling rival GMA-7’s “Manny Many Prizes” which only got 10.1 %.

Piolo & Rio Reunite for Timex Run 2012

This January 22, 2012, TIMEX, world renowned makers of high quality time gears, will once again unite casual runners and hardcore sportsmen alike on one blazing race track as it gives rise to the much-awaited TIMEX Run 2012.

Set to unfold at Bonifacio Global City in Taguig, the historic race shall witness the reunion of the unbeatable running tandem of sought after actor and runner Piolo Pascual and multiple champion runner, coach and marathon organizer Rio Dela Cruz. Last January 13, 2012, the two led a special press gathering to officially present before media partners how this running event levels up from before and all the other races in town, and just why everyone should be part of it.

Coming from a string of back-to-back sporting events where it joined forces with the country’s premiere athletes, such as the Camsur Ironman Triathlon and TIMEX 226 in Bohol over the last years, TIMEX is all set to make this year’s race all the more memorable, fun and extremely power-packed!

First and the most exciting of all, participants shall get a very special chance to get fit, have fun and best of all run side-by-side with two of the country’s most beloved idols in entertainment and running; TIMEX brand ambassadors Piolo and Rio. For the last few months, the two have dedicated time amidst their busy schedules to train hard to ensure they’re in the best shape come race day. Velvet exclusively airs the “Royal Variety Performance”

Get a dose of royal entertainment through the Philippine premiere of “The Royal Variety Performance” on January 21 (Saturday) at 10p.m. exclusive on Velvet.

The “Royal Variety Performance” is an annual event attended by the senior members of the Royal family of United Kingdom (UK). The event showcases different astounding performances from comedians, singers, magicians and acrobats who made their mark in their respective fields.

This year’s performances include US “X Factor” judge and former Pussycat Doll Nicole Sherzinger, UK “X Factor” winner Leona Lewis, Pop Sensation Pixie Lott and “Britain’s Got Talent” winner Jai McDowall.

Two of the world’s best music icons Tony Bennett and Barry Manilow will also fly in to UK for a one night only performance. Trivia King Kim Atienza wishes to finish the triathlon this year

The country’s Trivia King Kim Atienza is currently undergoing rigorous training in preparation for his triathlon this coming August. It's his birthday wish to do well in the competition.

“I want to really learn how to swim for my coming Ironman 70.3 triathlon. I have to be able to swim 2 kilometers non-stop within one hour by August,” said Kuya Kim who will celebrate his birthday this Tuesday (Jan 23).

Known for his fearless stunts as anchor of ABS-CBN's reality-education program, Kuya Kim also revealed what he wishes to do in his multi-awarded show “Matanglawin.”

“I want to go to the North Pole,” he shared. After all his hard work showing what viewers can do during worst-case scenarios for the show’s upcoming episode, the whole production team gave him an unexpected birthday bash.

Over the past years, viewers have witnessed the bold and daring side of Kuya Kim who did spiels while lying down inside a coffin, lived in the jungle, went down a volcano crater, bitten by a monitor lizard, and even had a six-inch tube through his nose when he underwent laryngoscopy.

No wonder that the country's leading award-giving bodies have recognized Kuya Kim as an outstanding educational program host. In 2011, Kuya Kim bagged awards from the PMPC Star Awards, ENPRESS Golden Screen TV Awards, Anak TV Seal, UP Gandingan, and USTv Awards.

"The Kitchen Musical" finale on Studio 23

Will it be a bitter or sweet ending for Maddie and the rest of the staff of The Avilon? The finale of the pan-Asian musical-cooking TV series topbilled by Karylle and Christian Bautista comes to its exciting second-part finale this Saturday (Jan 21) in "The Kitchen Musical” on Studio 23.

The whole restaurant is in chaos after Mr. Avilon disappeared, with grave allegations being thrown at him. This tears Maddie (Karylle) apart as questions and doubts filled her mind regarding her father’s disappearance. As she searches for answers, Maddie finds out the truth behind her father’s schemes and a shocking revelation about Harry (Arthur Acuna).

As if the news about Mr Avilon isn’t enough, Selena (Rosemary Vanderbrouck) then reveals to Maddie and the rest of the kitchen staff that The Avilon will have a new owner with her as the new General Manager. Together with Harry, Alex (Stephen Rahman Hughes) will be kicked out of the restaurant and Daniel (Christian Bautista) re-enters the picture as the new Executive Chef.

With The Avilon’s change of ownership, will its staff also undergo a change of heart? Will they take Alex or Daniel’s side?

“The Kitchen Musical” first aired in the Philippines, among other Asian countries, in October and premiered via Studio 23. It was shot entirely in Singapore and was produced by The Group Entertainment.

Ted Failon investigates of country's disaster plan

What can people possibly do to survive a disaster if they are not warned?

This Saturday, Ted will look into the calamities that hit the country and find out whether measures could have been taken to prevent the damages they caused?

According to the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the Philippines is one of the world’s most hazard-prone countries. For this reason the MGB devised a geo-hazard map to inform the public what areas in the country are too dangerous for habitation.

But even so, many have perished and several millions worth of properties have been destroyed in natural calamities over the years. In 2011, Typhoons Falcon, Bebeng, Pedring, Quiel and Sendong accounted for many of these deaths and damages, which many say could have been avoided had there been proper warning systems and disaster plans.

In his investigation, Ted learned from MGB that Sitio Wawa in San Rafael, Montalban, Rizal is in danger of falling prey to landslides. According to Nanay Neneng, a resident of the sitio for the past 25 years, neither she nor her neighbors had ever been warned of the possibility.

Is the government exerting enough effort to keep its citizens out of harm’s way during times of disaster? What measures can citizens take to be safe?

Team Philippines of the coming PINOY PRIDE XI: Philippines vs The World led by their captain Milan “El Metodico” Melindo will be doing another PP XI Public Work-Out this time at the SM City Cebu this Friday January 20 2012 5 PM in the afternoon.

He will be joined by team Philippines members and ALA fighters Lorenzo Villanueva, Joseph Von Minoza, OPBF Champion Merlito “Tiger” Sabillo” and Mhar Jhun Makahilig who is considered to be another prospect coming out of the Philippines.

PINOY PRIDE XI Philippines vs THE WORLD is ALA Promotions and ABS CBN Sports’ first mega boxing offering of the year that will showcase five different nationalities in one event. Team Philippines will be going up against high quality opponents from Mexico, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia and Korea.

Showcased on the main event is Milan “El Metodico” Melindo, the WBO Intercontinental Flyweight Champion against world title challenger in Juan Esquer of Mexico. Studio 23 airs live Azkals-Incheon citizens match for ABS-CBN Sagip Kapamilya

The Azkals are taking to the field for the team's second charity match this year as they face South Korean third-tier club Incheon Citizens on Saturday (Jan 21), 6 p.m. at the Rizal Memorial Stadium, to be aired live on Studio 23.

The charity match, dubbed as “Kia Rio Cup,” is aimed at raising funds for the benefit of ABS-CBN Sagip Kapamilya's drive for the victims of Typhoon Sendong,

While the Azkals will not be represented by several of their Europe-based players because of commitments to their respective clubs, top players Phil Younghusband, James Younghusband, Chieffy Caligdong, Ian Araneta and Anton del Rosario will be leading the team against the South Korean club, which boasts of World Cup veterans and excellent rookies.

The Azkals played their first charity match for Sendong victims against Spains’ CF Internacional Madrid. The game, held on January 7, was reported to have raised at least P1.5 million.

During the event, a telethon was conducted by Kapamilya stars, where they received donations and pledges for the victims.

The tickets to the Azkals-Incheon Citizens game, which is presented by ABS-CBN and US-based Dragon Promotions, are at P100, P300, P500, P1000 and P1500 and are available at Ticket World outlets.
